Used to use plywood decades ago because you could by fiberglass bonded panels. Those were warrantied 10 years off the truck.
I use ACM panels now. By the time you get done painting both sides of the plywood, all the handling, mess and clean up it isn't worth it.
$1300 per truck assuming two decals each. Also assuming the decals are just about 4' x 19' give or take. Then there is the aspect of cleaning before the install. Installing over rivets takes time to do properly. I clean the surface then make sure each rivet in the graphic area is spotless...
Ask if they have a portfolio. If they don't and call themselves a designer that would be a red flag.
Honestly if you can find someone that will show up on time, work their full shift, stay off their phone and not miss work they are trainable.
Is it a mega-dollar boat/yacht? If so I don't think I'd worry about UV. Around here they only see about 4 months outdoors. More often than not striping, lettering etc..get damaged before they fail from exposure.
I weld aluminum and you will never weld ACM. If there wasn't a plastic core you might have a chance, but you'd need a TIG welder.
For an adhesive try this: Dual-Mix™ Multi-Purpose Panel Adhesive | adhesive | SEM Products
If you go with the panel adhesive check around at auto body supply...
I always call. Even then I won't put anything within 3 meters of buried fiber optic or gas lines. Fiber optic is the worst. All businesses connected can and will sue for lost business, wages and future damages to their business. It happened to a guy not far from me. Absolute ugliness ensued.
Wondering if anyone can help with a quote? Client wants white lettering outlined in red with a Florentine Swirl gold drop shadow. I figured a direct print may be the way to go. Hate to cover most of the gold, but it beats trying to register layers.
