Try Crayola washable water base markers on whatever vinyl you have in stock. They wipe right off of Arlon 6000XRP.

Time to start looking at the cables. Power off the printer and walk away for a while. Power will bleed off. Then check to make sure all you cables are seated and square in their sockets.
Your cables could be having intermittent shorts also. All that back and forth folding and unfolding...

After replacing the encoder sensor/strip did you run the calibrations? Encoder sensor can be finicky in regards to alignment. Needs to be paralell to the encoder strip and evenly gapped side to side Took me a couple trys to get a solid calibration test.
For signs that have to conform to a radius I use 2mm foam-pvc from Midland Plastics. No clue if it comes in different colors though as my projects are full coverage.
I'd turn it down. Gotta look at the big picture. Powder coat is so thin by the time you wash and buff it will be see through or gone in a lot of spots. Then when they go to sell it and peel the wrap they'll be wanting you to pay for a repaint.
If you decide to tackle it you should rethink...
Had a couple carts do that on my SP540V. I put innew carts and got the same no ink meesage. Polished the chips on my blue jeans and they've been working since. Maybe I got lucky, I dunno.
