NOOOOO Adrain!!! it's my fault... i made this so much more complicated than it should have been.
in my effort to point out what a useful feature that is... i over complicated it!
YOUR post was awesome!!!
it's like you waltzed in and said "the emperor is naked"

John, you're talking to the girl who got kicked out of class for take a stance against having x's and y's or any letters for that matter, in math problems.

Adrian... so ummm... do you love me yet????
you should... LOOK HOW GOOD I JUST MADE YOU LOOK!!!!!
is it any wonder why i hate math? :ROFLMAO:
i'd like to rewrite my original post to simply read:
Did you know you could use the dimensional fields to make calculations?
Oh and.... can anyone help...
And here's the example i should have given in my opening post.
FYI: the 48" dimension is just a ratio... that number would apply to anything on the page... whether horizontal vertical or even at an angle.. it just establishes the scale.
well how convenient is this...
Chief (not his real name) just stopped by and he wants his logo on the door of his truck.
i snap a photo of his truck and do a quick mock-up, so he can approve the placement and size.
while i go create the life size file for printing, letting InDesign and...

just thought of common real world example, gonna work on it right now!
oooo... with photos, screen shots, circles and arrows... it'll all make perfect sense
just wait... your gonna love me
unless you're already doing this
Bill, i hope you'll give this function a try... it's quite different than simply letting the program calculate the second dimension for you after you've plugged in a known dimension.
My apologies... it seems i gave such a basic example of this feature, that it sounds like i'm talking about a...
ah oh... how'd i end up in this thread...
lemme check my pockets... got be an upper case letter in here somewhere... crap empty... not even a measly little upper case i... oooo, i did find a period though... think i'll put that right abooooout here.
i'm outta here
i'm sure that's how everyone scales objects, especially when working with basic percentages like half, thirds, quarters, sixteenths but maybe not so when you get to less common fractions.
and scaling wouldn't help with setting doc dimensions or for the last few purposes i mentioned.
you can do...
i thought this was common knowledge, but in the past few months i've seen people use a calculator instead of letting inDesign & Illy do the math for them.
did you know anyplace where you would enter a dimension you can enter an equation?
say for example you have a 4.875" wide x 5.3625" high...
HEY BUDDY... YOU THERE ONE SEAT OVER... YEAH YOU...
IF YOU DIDN'T FINISH YOUR PEANUTS CAN I HAVE SOME?
OH SURE, PRETEND LIKE YOU DON'T SEE ME...

hey two hours later and your light is green... does that mean they have wireless on the plane?
i'm wondering if many planes have it these days?
if so, are you on a laptop or smart phone?
1leonchen my apologies if i'm asking something that's already been discussed... but can you tell us (or me, if others already know) more about how this printer was your downfall. the more details you can give the better... you might just save me from making a big mistake!
i guess my questions...
