  1. New computers/upgrade

I don't know about idle power consumption. I leave my computers on 24/7 and they go to sleep after 3 hours of non-use. All my PSU's are at least 80+ bronze certified. They are supposed to be more efficient. I can tell you that they do not get as hot. From my understanding of AC electricity...
  2. SSD Drives Revisited

Ditto! I put SSD drives in two of my machines and can't wait to replace the others. I go home and almost get frustrated at my Raid 0 setup on my wife's computer. I'm getting a new tablet PC in the near future so I've been keeping my eye on prices of SSD's. That will be the first thing I do...
  3. SSD Drives Revisited

and prices are falling back down right now. OCZ is about to introduce a faster Vertex 2, so I would guess their prices may drop in the near future. I have been seeing 120/128gb drives for right around $300 the last couple of weeks. Kingston has a 128gb for $250 right now. Not as fast as the...
  4. Mousepad from shop materials?

good mouse pad? Try a rocketfish. is pretty big. Has slick side for speed and a textured side for control. Been using for about 3 months now and I like it. It's made from aluminum with a texture applied. And it looks cool. Got it at BestBuy.
  5. file back up

+1 on the windows home server. We have all artwork on external hard drive. WHS backs up all computers and external hard drive daily. Have another WHS and external drive off site that gets backed up once a month with data from shop. I know once a month is kind of long, but it works for me.
  6. Gerber Edge software

You can look for an older version of Gerber software than someone might have laying around. Or older version of Signlab for that matter. Gerber Graphix Advantage 6.0. You can do 95% of everything Omega 3.0 can do with GA 6.0. PM me if you have questions. I may have an older copy I'm not...

  11. Specs on my new systems!

My opinion - you are building machines that are already outdated On the processor, you should at least use the 945 Power Supply - super important. The more head room you have, the more efficient they will be and save you $$$ in the long run. Be sure you get one that is 80+ bronze certified...
  12. New computers/upgrade

heyskull, I'm a computer junkie. I demand high speed computers and constantly upgrade. I cannot stand going to another sign shop and watching them work on junk. If you want speed, it will cost. There is no such things as cheap and fast. Just like the signs we make. If it's cheap and fast...
  13. SSD Drives Revisited

I bought my first SSD last August. 120gb OCZ vertex. Running XP 32 bit on my rip station. I keep my files on an external drive and backup to my server. I also have a 500gb Seagate drive as a scratch drive. The speed is amazing. My rip time on files was cut by 60-80% on large files. A 500mb...
  14. Suggestions For Design System

Andrew, if you are still looking at computers give me a call. I am a computer junkie. I have lots of good information on how the latest and greatest compares. My 4 rigs. 1. Rip Station - Q9550 3.6ghz on water - 4gb 1066 ram - XP 32 bit - 120gb OCZ Vertex and 500gb Seagate - ATI 4850 - Dual...
  15. Graphtec drivers for Gerber

Chris, I had the same problem. There is no driver. I even upgraded to the new 3.0 and still no driver. I made my own and it still didn't work correctly. I haven't messed with it in a while, but I did put in a call to customer support. Of course, they called when I was at lunch and I have...

  17. I run my business out of my house crew. I need some help

I worked from home for a few years and I did not really like it. Of course, I downsized to move into my garage. I ended up with 3 12'x30' storage units down the street and my converted garage. I did not like people coming to my home and I typically would not invite them. I do a lot of...
  18. printing on brushed chrome

I just did some on another brand and it came out okay. I just don't know the brand. If it's full bleed, be sure and stroke the edge or overprint it. For some reason, the edges are always ragged...

  20. What's the difference between jet black and black foil?

I used spot Black and process Black interchangeably. Doesn't seem to be a difference. I did try the Jet Black for my edge positives, but still found myself having to do double pass for pinholes. I went through one roll and never tried it again. Thanks for the insight Horst M...
