  1. How do you manage an employee who knows more than you?

Perhaps you might heed some traditional wisdom from UseNet: "He who has the last word loses". Take it to heart. It would seem a rare combination of naivete and defensiveness that compels someone to respond to each and every post with sufficient venom that even the most phlegmatic participants...
  2. X6 slowing down?

They seemed to have fixed the aberrant drop shadow behavior in X6. In X3 a largish, for Corel, drop shadow would often appear as the bounding rectangle of the shadow rather than the shadow itself. Once it did this, there was no getting it back. Other than that, X3 was just fine.
  3. How do you manage an employee who knows more than you?

Did you hire him to manage your business or to do the work? If the latter, you manage the business and let him do the work. He's supposed to know more about it than you. If the former, why? You sound very much like someone who just naturally wants to micro manage everything around you...
  4. X6 slowing down?

Exactly. But for those of us running 32 bit 4Gb is the maximum and it really isn't enough, apparently. X6 compared to X3 is a real disappointment performance-wise. It's incredibly slow compared to its elder brother. It's not abundantly clear that feature-wise it's any better either. I'm...
  5. Is Twitter DOWN?

One can only hope so and, if so, hope that it stays that way.
  6. Do you 'tag' your signs?

That bit of inanity is locked in a tie with the comment about an artist signing his work for what has to be the absolute stupidest comment yet on this thread. An automobile isn't 'tagged' by Ford. It IS a Ford. Likewise for smokes, and to a lesser or greater degree, most all other brand name...
  7. Do you 'tag' your signs?

As previously noted, it's the clients sign, not mine. Every banner that leaves this shop is rolled and put into a brand-new tube with end caps. I always put a decal with my logo and information as well as a 6" by whatever miniature print of the banner that's inside on the tube.
  8. Blade for PVC?

Could you expand on this? Perhaps with photos or illustrations? Your description above is somewhat less than revealing. I've been contemplating the notion of a universal jig for cutting most any oddball shaped piece into a circle, ideally without a center pivot ala centerless grinding, and...
  9. Cutawl Blades

A couple of places... www.tylersdisplay.net/Cutawl-s/20.htm www.wertherdisplays.com For most people a package each of #11 and #21D or #23D blades represents a lifetime supply.
  10. Colour issues

Don't convert RGB to CMYK to send to a printer or out to be printed. Send the RBG file to whomever or whatever will be doing the printing and let their RIP deal with it. A RIP does the conversion for specific hardware and specific media and is more intense. It will do a far better job than...
  11. Blade for PVC?

You can also drive a nail with a rock. Merely because something is possible does not mean that it's reasonable. Cutting circles, especially large circles with anything less than CNC tackle is problematic. Using hand and even stationary tools you're essentially trying to draw a circle freehand...
  12. Wearing Out Welcome???

Your concern must be solely for your daughter, the guy shouldn't enter into your worries. Arrange to send your daughter, and some friends of the same sex if possible and absolutely without her intended, somewhere for a week, two weeks, a few days if nothing else. Disneyland, Nantucket, San...
  13. Denver Area Shooting!

You ever had anyone take a shot at you? You ever take a shot at anyone? It doesn't sound like it. Someone carrying a gun could/would/should have blown this fellow into the next time zone. Disabling and/or shooting the guns out of the hands of bad guys is the stuff of the the Lone Ranger and...
  14. Denver Area Shooting!

"...I'm sure we all agree that we ought to love one another and I know there are people in the world that do not love their fellow human beings and I hate people like that..." Tom Lehrer "A gun is like a tennis racquet, when you need one nothing else will do." Anonymous
  15. Denver Area Shooting!

Driving is a privilege that can be granted or denied via the whim of the apparatus. Possessing firearms is a right and is not subject to the vagaries of government.
  16. 1624 roller marks HELP

If I run 30" media the rollers that are where the left side of the carriage stops to reverse on the left side of the media get ink on them. If I don't clean the rollers in this area they will leave tracks on wider media. The track lasts for maybe a foot or so until the ink wears off the rollers.
  17. Print. Laminate, Cut - just a bit off....

Not so. If the plotter manages to read four registration marks successfully then the exact shape of the image's bounding rectangle is known and all vectors within that space are remapped to account for this shape. The reason the media needs to be reasonably square to the plotter is so the...
  18. Print. Laminate, Cut - just a bit off....

When you say 'left to right' do you mean the direction of carriage travel or the direction of media feed? Is the error the same in both directions or is it only in one direction? Since the error is cumulative the sensor to cutter distance setting is correct [I assume that there is such a...
  19. Who knows your fractions

Surely you jest... A base 10 measurement system is rife with fractional results.Since 10 has only three factors, 1, 5, and 2, there's few calculations in that space that won't result in fractional results. Really clumsy fractional results since 10 can only be subdivided easily into 10ths, 5ths...
  20. UltraFlexx 13oz getting thinner?

The 13 ounce rating means that's the weight of a square yard of the material. The only way to determine of the material is sub-standard is to actually weigh a square yard of it. If it weighs 13 ounces then it's exactly as advertised. If not, then... While thickness might be indicative of...
