I to have also used 6.2 on XP, from 2002-2006. I upgraded to omega in 06. The only thing is that you need to remember is that you can not run the EDGE through the dongle, if you have an LPT dongle. So you need 2 LPT ports.

Why are you converting a pdf to a tif? Why not just print the pdf in cmyk?(same way the tif would print) Try using the original file & eliminate the conversion.

Also ask Gerber.... Also see if you can purchase a service contract. Well worth it!
