best plotters to use for sandblast resist are the Gerber GS15+ or Gerber GS750+ plotter, 15" and 30" respectively. They are made for that application with a sprocket design and tangential 60 degree blade.
the difference for spot color will be strictly speed in that scenario- up to 3 times faster at 300x300. The higher dpi is mostly only used on CMYK prints or sometimes small items/text.
Nothing other then Gerber products are "Edge Ready" - there are some thermal ready products out there- I know Oracal Reflective is ok, Avery Reflective is ok- but if you want the good results- stick with Gerber/3M 280 and the Gerber foils.
The 3M 467 is the best stuff to use. We carry it converted down to 12" x 10yd lengths instead of the 180 yd that come from 3M.
we call it Lexadhesive..
I just confirmed with Epson that it is NOT discontinued. The printer is flying off the shelves and is barely a year old.
It will continue to be sold by Advantage for sure!

As a Gerber Dealer that sells this- we recommend about 2-3 days for the training. It is very involved to learn the software as well as bit speed, blade depth, etc. If it is needing to be assembled - you do need to add another 2-3 days for that.. if it is all together already you would only...
Just to give you an idea- on the new Mimaki CJV30 Print/Cut machines with essentially the same printer in them- there is no cover that comes with them..
Unfortunately these are prices put out by Mimaki- not the distributors. Some distributors lower it and make you purchase a certain amount of $$ on a monthly basis to get that discount. We have no control over the costs associated with the warranty or the parts that are included. Mimaki...
To replace the printhead on an Edge you are probably looking in the $4-5,000 area. Thats the average repair i see. Gerber is offering a $7,000 trade-in right now as well to trade-up to the FX.
You should check out the new Gerber M3000 cutter- Its the cutting solution for the new Solara Ion! It works great and can cut vinyl to wood to a ton of things in between.
The blade you need for the enVision plotter for normal 2-4 mil vinyl is the 45 degree blade. Comes in a pack of 2 - Part # P63679B.
The equivalent Oracal vinyl to use for the Gerber Edge II is 651. It comes in 15" punched format.
