  1. Replacing a Roland encoder sensor (SP-540V)

Encoder sensor is at the very back of the carriage. The ribbon cables for the heads make it difficult to see and get to. To get at mine I turn the printers main power switch off and unplug the ether cable. Then I walk away to let power "drain" from the electronics. If you are extremely...
  2. Generic encoder strip for SP540V

    Nope. Just whack it in.
  3. Font Indentification

I need help with these two. Thank you.
  4. Hypalon

High tack vinyl or specialty paint on Hypalon? Or should I even mess with it? Client wants tender(dinghy) lettering to match transom. Printed patches can be ordered that just glue on, but they're plain block lettering.
  5. Mimaki JV3 leaking ink

Replace the cap top. Sponge may have swollen and contacted bottom of print head.
  6. Repairing Rollers With Silicone?

I'd check with a place like this: http://www.rol-tec.com/capabilities/urethane-molded-rollers-parts.php Trying to repair a precision piece without the proper equipment is bad news. You'll spend all kinds of money and effort and still have issues. Not shooting form the hip either. I spent...
  7. latex vs. solvent

Here is what I know from running latex and solvent in two completely different environments. Roland and HP are what I use. Latex printers are made for long runs. Load the media and walk away. You can't run small pieces with latex either. IIRC you need at least 42" for it to feed and...
  8. Need help IDENTIFYING clip art collections for doing mobile home graphics

Crank up your own design in Illustrator. Not that bad of a job. Much quicker than trying to search the web for anything usable. Best part is you own the design.
  9. CutContour in VersaWorks - shape only

CutContours from Ai. No point to "fill" them. Just send a 100% magenta one point stroke as a PDF. EPS works well also. Tip of the Day: If the letter "A" doesn't show up when sending a PDF to VW burn a PostScript file from Acrobat. Works every time. VW loves PostScript files.
  10. Best Blockout Material?

If you're tinting/covering IG panels there are calcs involved. This makes sure your heat gain is within specs and you don't pop the panels. I'd get hooked up with a reputable film installer and ask for help.
  11. Roland soljet 545ex help! Experts needed

    Try this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5FZJXO9sVc
  12. SP540V Encoder strip flip

I just flipped mine top for bottom, but it was only a stop gap. Bottom that had never seen the light of day was marginally better. Ended up ordering a new generic strip and installing it. You may want to have a new strip on hand just in case. IIRC I paid about 30 bucks delivered. As long as...
  13. Waterline Striping

No extra help. Just me. Thinking about using just a touch of Rapid-Tac to give me a chance to move things a bit and eliminate bubbles.
  14. Waterline Striping

If possible I need some tips, tricks, insight. Anyone ever done waterline striping on a yacht? It is 65 feet long. It's out of the water, clean, and indoors. I've installed a lot of vinyl striping over the years, but never on this scale. Anyone ever cut vinyl stripe tape with knifeless tape...
  15. Hello All. Thoughts on Printers

Best advice I can give is buy from the dealer closest to your shop. If a Mimaki, Roland or HP dealer is right next door buy from them. Yes, even if it costs more. All printers break, and usually at the worst possible time. You want your dealer to be at your in 24 hours or less.
  16. Issues from printer sitting inactive (not using enough) Roland SolJet Pro III XC-540

When I'm done printing for the day, week, whatever I unload the media and just walk away. It will go to sleep and go into idle/maintenance all by itself.
  17. Missing nozzles after severe humidity

Could be as simple as moisture collecting on the contact areas of the ribbon cables.
  18. Permit bounced back for lack of "shear or pullout values"

OP may be in Cali, but it sounds like he could be working in the next town over in the great white north. Absolute mess trying to get a permit for any type of sign. Last one required a 15' setback from the right-of-way. So I asked the planner where the right-of way survey line was. I'm still...
  19. Internet Upload Speeds

The "rocket fast" advertised speeds are for downloads only. They bury the upload speeds in the fine print.
  20. Negative Space

Going to show the class next week.
