  1. Flag Pole Installation

I forgot to make it clear, you need a C13/Fencing Contractor license to contract this type of work.
  2. Flag Pole Installation

First, you need a contractors license, no contractors license, no go... then you check the code to see what is allowed. Is there a sign program for the area? Is this a leased building or is he the owner... if he leases then he might need the owners written permission as part of the submittal. In...
  3. Seems we have another crazy customer

That's the UK. In the states, each state dictates what a contractor can ask for. In California, it's $1000.00 or 10%, whichever is less. Your client is doing this because he can. Without a clear policy in place, you are open to any interpretation. In the months of no contact, did you make...
  4. Font ID pleeeeeeeese...

Crap, thats it... I have it... I bought it for a job that another designer did... this job is designed by the same designer. You would think I would have remembered plopping down all that cash for that typeface... maybe I blocked out that memory. Thanks Fred...
  5. Font ID pleeeeeeeese...

This font has been driving me loco.... Help me!
  6. My salesguy has gone rogue!

In case you didn't know... don't hire anyone as dumb as dirt or crackheads. I don't know about New York, but in California, it is illegal for an employee to take sensitive material out of the office in an attempt to secure employment and/or starting a business. You might want to talk to an...
  7. Good job gone bad

Do you need a contractors license for this type of work?... if you do, then you may very well be responsible for code compliance at a certain point. You may to be in the clear, but you were refacing a bootleg sign, a simple check of the code/zoning may have answered that. Over here in...
  8. Big idea

Most design firms are not approachable because they do not make themselves approachable. It has always been the case... shopping for design is very hard. That is why so many small businesses find themselves shopping for graphics at glorified copy shops and sign shops... some of these copy shops...
  9. Big idea

My initial reaction was the same on 'the big idea'. Unless you had a more clever way of presenting it, it was not doing anything unique enough. It's not to say it can't work, but the logo really needs to step it up on the concept, to me, the light bulb is overused. Have you researched any...
  10. Big idea

http://images.google.com/images?um=1&hl=en&safe=off&client=safari&rls=en&tbs=isch%3A1&sa=1&q=bright+idea+logo&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=&start=0 To me, there is little difference between 'Forbus Design Studio' and 'Bright Idea'. Seems like both names will attract the same type of client...
  11. CS5 is available

I'm playing with it right now.... Well I should not believe everything I read.... it's limited to 227 inches. Really never a big deal to me, but some people like to design full size. P
  12. Vintage Sign Effect

I don't think JHills idea will work on a printed vinyl sign, but will work on a hand painted one... Have you seen this? http://www.misterretro.com/
  13. why there is no flash on iphone or ipad

After Microsoft's comments, it will be interesting to see what Adobe's response is to this... Interesting commentary on the Wall Street Journal about it.
  14. a sign to match these existing signs

Been racking my brain, I can't remember the name of the job, but I remember some of the details... I was trying to figure out if it's on a Zip, or one of the few back-up drives I have, or DVD and then figure out which one... if it's on a zip or tape drive, then I have to find that thing... This...
  15. Sintra exterior sign

Yes... not the prime choice in material, it does work. I would not use Sintra/PVC on a post at any thickness, but the thicker Sintra (like 1/4") on a wall not getting beat by 100 degree weather constantly, will work.
  16. CS5 is available

Some cool features in Illustrator... I do believe we get an unlimited workspace now... not that is matters to me since I design in scale but that argument can go away. I dig the gradient enhancements, the design in back feature and pathfinder changes are interesting but now I probably have more...
  17. a sign to match these existing signs

I have messed with this type of system before (that fiberglass gets yellow and chalky.... what we did was cut out the section of fiberglass where the lettering would be and attached a routed out aluminum face with acrylic backing to it. We did all the signs on the project, so we added a 1"...
  18. why there is no flash on iphone or ipad

I have friends into APP development and they agree with Steve Jobs, but they also agree that a customer should have a choice. One suggested a warning screen so the person can decide on whether to continue or not if performance was going to suffer using Flash... I don't know if Jobs is a genius...
  19. Custom backlit signs

Question... do you have a C-46 or a C-61/D45 Contractors license? If not, you might want to pass this off to a sign shop that does have one.
  20. Can anybody name the artistic style of Frank Fellers truck wrap?

Its that same ol' maximalism/compost modernism style.. it's big with the bro's
