  1. How is this possible????

If you open the original .jpg, in Photoshop, then go to paths, you should see the path, click on it, you should be able to turn on the path.
  2. How is this possible????

Did you open it in Illustrator and see it in wireframe to see if the vector is in there... You can save a jpg with the clipping mask embedded in the jpg so it seems the previous designer must have done that.
  3. Advice wanted on creating design portfolio

Just wanted to say I got the book, and was blown away not only about how to put together a great portfolio, but what designers look for in a portfolio (especially good if you are presenting your work for freelance) Really great book.

  6. stroke data converted...how do you break it apart?

Release compound. Delete inner stroked outline (if there are no "holes" just weld it all together) if there are holes, after removing unwanted inner cutline, compound shape again.
  7. Illustrator Question (easy one)

What version of Illustrator? Fred left something out -- Select text (make sure it is outlines/converted to curves) -- In Pathfinder Select "ADD TO SHAPE AREA" (usually located at the upper left corner of the palette) -- The Hit "EXPAND" Forget what I said, Fred was right! I never hit the...

  9. My vector dude

There seems to be some confusion on this thread, Are you looking for a cartoon characature, or what Flamey was looking for... A vector photo? That might help lead you in the right direction.
  10. My vector dude

Another thing I do is place the original image on top while I am going along, and make sure the person comes through in the drawing. I don't want exact, just catch the person's recognizable feature. For the heck of it I played with it more. the animated gif shows how the picture turns into the...
  11. My vector dude

If he said Cartoon Characature, then I would agree.. he seems to be working on a characature like a vector photo..., that could be interpreted as the illustration class example that is popular nowadays... wiki describes it ad " A caricature can refer to a portrait that exaggerates or distorts...

Not capturing the guy at all, the nose, the eyes the chin... I played with it for around 15 minutes using the image I posted as a base to do a quick sketch on tracing paper then traced it on my vector program. The thing that stands out on this guy is his smile, healthy shnoz and eyes... You...
  14. What Can You Do?

First, you never show them something you do not believe in. Second, there is probably a way to incorporate what the clients wants and what they need. I was just reading this last night.... http://artbackwash.blogspot.com/2010/03/giving-bird-to-bird.html and then re-read this one...
  15. I've been to your profile page... and i must say, I'm very disappointed!

GG, I just looked at your "about me" info, it look fine to me... it says enough without giving up client info that some can troll for and you don't give up who you are to just anyone. I need to do that with mine if I am going to get into more networking opportunities. I just added a lot more...
  16. My vector dude

When I do an illustration like this, I try to lay down a foundation of the person using the image in it's simplest form to catch the essence of the persons face, then build layers on top of that. You got the idea, just started with a poor foundation. I might use Photoshop, make the image...

  18. I've been to your profile page... and i must say, I'm very disappointed!

I had a tiny bit more information about myself and I have posted work from a job I was at. Bit me in the butt... this was here and other design sites. There are more than a few insecure people out there who will start trouble for whatever reason they have. Simply not worth losing a client or a...

Every shop I worked at (8 total) designed in either Corel or Illustrator, we only used a sign program like Flexi, Gerber, Signlab, Sign Wizard and a few more for production. I never recommend working in a specific program that by default, would save at their specialized file extension...
