I'm thinking they go to Fastsigns because advertising and the franchise model may be working... I worked for a Fastsigns for a while, was not impressed with that store, but I have been in a few Fastsigns and Signaramas that were very impressive.

I agree with Bob... the reason I mention putting a price on that design prior to sending it out is that you are putting a number on the design, so if the job does get pinched, you have some paperwork stating that there was an 'agreed' amount attached to the design than just getting reimbursed...

They make waxes that will semi-polish the blasted areas, but depending on the blast, you still may need to do a bit of polishing before applying the wax, and you might lose some of the detail if you use that too.

Like Zeth says... A series of pads, they have dry pads or wet... I prefer wet, dry can sometimes leave marks on the granite depending on which one. One thing I can see is polishing off some of the dimension of the blasted area. What kind of design? Almost better to hand carve, then polish...

I know a lot of people will say, 'GET PAID FOR DESIGN'... and I am one of them, but the fact is, many shops do spec work. To them it's worth the risk. I have clients that I freelance for, that pay me for work, they give away... (I still own the design on some clients) some are hundreds of...

Part of the problem is, when re-designing, or designing in spec is, you really need to be upfront about the 'worth' of the design. Then there is, how much of the original concept is part of your new design? I'm sure if that was a 'designer' spec, they got paid before they handed the drawing off...

There is a reason I am asking... Was the artwork you bid on by a designer (interior or environmental graphic design or restaurant designer) or another design/build firm?

Are you designing it on spec to get the job? Or do you have a contract and getting paid to design it? Do you have an agreement that they will not shop the design around? Are you going to contract this as a single location project or will it be allowed to be used by al the restaurants?

On presentation drawings I don't use CadTools labels because I like solid fills on the presentation drawings, since most of the initial presentations are placed in the environment (or I fake one) Underneath the labels, there is another with a thicker white stroke to cut through color...
