  1. Northridge Pylon Sign

The comment he made is no longer there.. I will not comment on what board it was, the admin has worked hard at adding valuable content, it is a really good board, and deserves to be mentioned only in a positive way.
  2. Northridge Pylon Sign

I think the reason for the hostility is probably: -- His constant questioning of a persons qualifications. -- His need to justify his qualifications. -- His insistence that sign people on this board or maybe in general are close minded. -- His justification for lackluster design that is not...
  3. What is the difference in this terminology?

In the MUTCD. They mention specific levels of reflective that are required. They use the ASTM standards, and list types ( I, II, III, IV, V) required for certain signage. So it's not a random reflectivtivity... there is a standard.
  4. Book Review: Inside Sign Design: How to Design Interior and Exterior Signage

Yeah... I have been mute on the whole thing today because maybe there is something going on. Seems slightly out of character from the person I have talked too and had contact with. The guy I talked to is high energy and passionate about his work and the business. I still recommend the book...

  6. Best Sign Making Books - ALLTIME

More books on high end sign design (some may apply, at the very least something to think about when expanding services) are the following... Signage Systems and Information Graphics: A Professional Sourcebook by Andreas Uebele Signage and Wayfinding Design: A Complete Guide to Creating...
  7. Best Sign Making Books - ALLTIME

I guess that begs a few more questions, but for right now... There is no specific book on sign making for a cutter and printer. There are books that touch on it. Most information is in magazines and taught on the job. If it were me, I would get subscriptions to: Signcraft Magazine Signs of...
  8. Best Sign Making Books - ALLTIME

    What kind of signs?
  9. Dodge report / Mcgraw hill worth the $??

No introduction, kinda hard to say without knowing at least a little bit about you... First question... --Do you have a signage contractors license? Then... --Was it worth it then? --What kind of signs? --Are you talking design, design build or the build/install? In my opinion, not really...
  10. Where the h3ll is Shovelhead?

With 13,000+ post, he probably needed a break...
  11. How long would it take you????

I did 2 boo-boo's so I fixed them (1 minute) and I did another layout. The other layout took 25 minutes... When I get a layout like this I sit on it while working on mindless work, then I sit down and do it. Otherwise I fumble and fuss with it, which adds more time.

  13. Average Design Time Question

Don't know your experience, but there is a really cool job for the Museum of Natural History in Los Angeles... http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/med/1615897722.html And one in San Diego... http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/med/1609000387.html toying around with applying for the LA job
  14. How long would it take you????

Here is a quickie... Adobe CS3, took 45 minutes. Took a while because i kept tweaking it. Not totally happy with it. Would probably do another layout, but would look at what they currently do for their marketing and tie it all together somehow.
  15. How long would it take you????

I would take my circles elsewhere, but I enjoy torturing you fine people...
  16. How long would it take you????

A design challenge sounds like fun...
  17. How long would it take you????

I recreated it in 8 minutes... --Designing it really depends. It would take 15-30 minutes to go through the sign code and sign program restrictions/requirements (if I don't have to chase around for it) --Then, if they have a logo and a marketing look already. 15-30 minutes. --Ricky sign...
  18. Average Design Time Question

There is no industry average. I worked at one of the busiest vehicle graphic shops in the area after being a grunt at another shop. I was shocked to see the designer and one part time designer cutting vinyl non-stop, 2-3 door layouts a day, One 40' trailor or wrap layout a day, while keeping...

What Pat said too... :corndog: + :bushmill: =
  20. How is this possible????

How is that two vector based programs can't see that path but Photoshop can? I don't know, but I am thinking that they will soon. It makes sense that if the feature exists, they will introduce it across the board, I'm sure there are quite a few good uses for having it. Who knows, maybe even...
