  1. What laminator and why?

Yeah - there are so many variables in play. If you are a decent sized shop, and just laminating an average amount of material (say 200sf/day or less), then a Royal Sovereign is definitely what I'd recommend. If you are doing high volume, then you gotta go Seal pro w/heat assist and get the...
  2. How do you price vinyl?

Come up and say hi - you can even stay for a few days if you want  I know that the southern part of ohio and norther KY is pretty depressed. But let me give you an example. One of my wholesale clients is in Waverly. Yes - Waverly. There isn't a much more depressed (or depressing) town...
  3. How do you price vinyl?

Sounds like the local market requires a sharpie and cardboard in order to make a decent living. $15 for a one off 18x24 yard sign? $10 for the same at a different shop? lol.
  4. How do you price vinyl?

When I say "ability" I don't mean that they already know how to do things. I mean the following: 1. Can they cut a straight line if you hand them an exacto and a straight edge? 2. Do they have the hand-eye coordination to pull transfer tape, and can they learn to properly hand-rub it...
  5. How do you price vinyl?

I would say that is absolutely false. For example, I'm not in a position to hire someone full time at this point, however if someone wanted to apprentice, or even just pick up minimum wage work for 10-15 hours/week, I would love to have someone with the ability needed to work in this business. I...
  6. AbsoLUTEly fried....

I have mentioned a in a couple of other threads that we've been slammed for the past 8 weeks - which is awesome! But it's wrecking my brain. Yesterday I get a call from a buddy who also has for all intents a purposes a 1 man shop. He does quite a bit of graphics installation for a few of the...
  7. How do you price vinyl?

It really isn't the same questions being asked over and over that is an issue. What chaps my a$$, and what does the same to many others here, is that people come into this business with ABSOLUTELY NO EXPERIENCE OR BUSINESS KNOWLEDGE and think that there is just money laying around on the ground...
  8. How do you price vinyl?

6 million dollars.... OR You could actually learn about this business BEFORE going into it....That's probably too much to ask though....
  9. Freelance design and Merchant Membership

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll be ordering it as soon as it's available!!!
  10. Freelance design and Merchant Membership

Several of us are trying to talk Arlo into making a video series teaching all of us younger (uninitiated) folks about the old school stuff. Hand lettering, carving, gold leaf, etc.
  11. Freelance design and Merchant Membership

I still think you should do a DVD/Video series Arlo....Please?
  12. 14x66" Sign - Printed on 3/4" MDO with framing

It's simple - you have to segment your services. Our fees for consultation/permit acquisition are totally separate from anything else we do. If the project requires us to provide drawings, whether the client provides an EPS or not is irrelivent - we still did work. Whether the city approves...
  13. Put out to pasture...

This. I can personally tell you that I would purchase a DVD/downloadable video series regarding old school sign making methods, included hand lettering, carving, painting, etc. They would have to be detailed and include step-by-steps, but I think you'd be surprised at the market for something...
  14. 14x66" Sign - Printed on 3/4" MDO with framing

First things first - why are you doing work before you have a deposit? Second - See the first thing.
  15. Partial wrap chevy Volt, No idea where to price it at.

    1. You are a premium subscriber - why are you posting this in the open forums? 2. If you think you can get $20/sf for a tiny partial, then hey - best of luck to you!
  16. Pan face or not ???

If the cabinet is made for a pan-face insert, then you should stick with that. There are times when you can get away without it, but at that size, I would DEFINITELY not use flat acrylic.
  17. Can't figure out how to make this sign...

He's printing direct to the material on a flatbed.
  18. Father of Digital Art Laurance Gartel

Gino, This doesn't happen often, but in Addie's defense, most Minor League football is non-profit. Not necissarily a "not for profit", but most definitely a NON-profit. I played for a couple of different Semi-Pro teams between college and AFL stops. Both of the teams that I played for were in...
  19. Customer has a deposit on a logo but want's to go another route

If you have already done the work, and you don't have a contract, then I'd say you should explain that you will be keeping the deposit. You'll never see the other 50%. Then, go put together a contract. You can do it yourself - aiga.org has the framework all laid out.
  20. Father of Digital Art Laurance Gartel

You own that team, or just play for it?
