  1. Art for Mattell Toy

Nope - not at all. Time after time, courts have ruled that paying someone for the time it takes to create something does not cause the creator to lose the IP rights to the creation. Now, the customer may have a different viewpoint on that, but their viewpoint means squat.
  2. Edge to Edge Printing/Full Wrap Noob!

We use a straight edge and an exacto. It's ain't rocket science. It takes a bit of time, but so does just about antyhing. I guess you could invest in a slitter, and try to slit1.5" off your whole roll once printed. Seems like a huge waste of $$ to me. Trimming out a 4'x8' panel shouldn't take...
  3. Which canvas?

Problem with phototex is that it is not a permanent solution. I'll see what I can find for you regarding acid free adhesives - your best bet is a framing supply company like Culvers.
  4. Which canvas?

Nope - get an acid free spray adhesive, or do what we do. I buy foamcore from Culvers that already has an acid free heat activated adhesive on one side. We have a framing press so we just put the print on there, press it for 90 seconds, and it's ready to trim out and use.
  5. Edge to Edge Printing/Full Wrap Noob!

Hehehehe....Welcome to the real world :) Not a damn thing you can do about it. Print your panels, laminate them, then trim 'em. That's the process. Oh - and if you haven't wrapped something like that before, do yourself a favor and print your panels at 48". Trust me.
  6. Which canvas?

I use the Piccasso canvas that Grimco sells.
  7. Art for Mattell Toy

Like I told you - $10k+ sounds about right to me. just so you have something to go by, I'm in the midwest. That's a pretty fair average as far as costs go for anything in the country. A decent sized design firm in Columbus will charge a customer $3-5k+ just for a logo project if the client...
  8. Art for Mattell Toy

ALWAYS HAVE A CONTRACT!!!! lesson #1 in design. Your contract needs to cover all possible stipulations and situations that may arise. The most important one being that YOU OWN THE COPYRIGHT AND IP. Also, that you are not performing "work for hire".
  9. digital printing pricing question????

I'd charge him the following: (Ink cost/sf * 2) + (Shop rate/hr *2) with him having to sign a waiver stating that you are not responsible for any material failures, printer errors, etc. I'd make him pay me up front. These types of clients are idiots. You don't need or want them. PS - Unless...
  10. Art for Mattell Toy

On a toy product, I'd say screw the royalty agreement. It's an unbelievably fickle market. Cash to sell IP rights. Marketing clause so that you can use the work in your portfolio or in advertisements, etc. One thing that you may run into is the guy might just have a coronary, since you didn't...
  11. Art for Mattell Toy

What did you tell him you would charge at the beginning? IMO, you have two separate fees that need to be charged. 1. Design time: Your hourly rate * Hours spent on design 2. Transfer of rights: This is an entirely different thing, and you need to make sure that you get the right contracts and...
  12. Critque?

OK - here's the even more important part.... Understanding HOW to do something is nowhere NEAR as important as understanding WHY things are done. Anyone can figure out HOW to do just about anything. Those who stand above are the ones who know WHY. You are starting a sign company, but lack just...
  13. who has a GC license

In Ohio this is also required, although not at the state level. It is a county level thing. Some counties require you to have a GC license in order to even file for permits. Franklin County is a perfect example. I haven't filed a permit in franklin county for years. There is a shop that does...
  14. Need Billboard design feed back ASAP!!

My thoughts - As others have said - too much happening. Your big "buzzword/call to action" part is totally lost. You want to get people's attention with that part. You aren't selling wraps - you are selling results. Draw people's attention to the results.
  15. Printed Foam Footballs

Just find yoruself a local pad printer and buy a lot of balls :)
  16. 5x5' back lit, Am i in the ballpark?

Yup - low. I'd be around $1200 for the faces and another $300+ for the install.
  17. Trailer sign

Fit both sides with a banner track system. Cheaper, easier, better.
  18. Thoughts. Ideas. Critique.

Additionally, your logo is REAL close to the look and feel of signcraft magazine.
  19. Dimensional/V-Carved signage...

So those of you who do this type of work would rather have to set-up the 3d stuff yourself than get a cut ready file? That is so foreign to me on the wholesale side that it's almost hard to fathom :help If that is the case, then cool - I'll just use PS/Illy to create what i want and see what...
