  1. stomp shear vs. steeltrak wall cutter

If you are doing production runs of ACM or sheet aluminum get a hydraulic shear with electric back gauge. They can be had cheap if one is patient enough. A shop I weld for bought a 10' hydraulic shear with digital back gauge, a massive iron worker, and a brake for less than $10,000.00...
  2. RANT about our god darn consumer culture!!

I am old enough to remember small appliance repair shops that were in every town. Way back when you could get your toaster repaired, or vacuum, etc... Of course appliances back then were built like tanks, but also meant to be serviced should the need arise. Products were made to such a...
  3. SolJet EJ-640

You should see where your feed/take-up reels are in relation to each other. I'd start by checking the level of the feed/take-up then tramming between the feed and take-up. Once that is dialed in I would check the tram of both against the linear rail. You will need a tram rod, dial indicator...
  4. Snowmobile/ motorsports wrap/graphics templates question

Without a three dimensional spatial reference the stylus won't know "where" it is. Working within a laser "cloud" and receptors on the stylus would probably work to give you the needed reference. Neat idea though. Cabinet shops use a digitizer where you pull out a string and touch all...
  5. Snowmobile/ motorsports wrap/graphics templates question

They do. It's called a CMM arm. Like this: http://hexagonmetrology.us/products/portable-measuring-arms Here ya go: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Infinite-2-0-Six-Axis-Romer-Arm-Model-5124-/181902787749?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368 Can bet your bottom dollar the folks generating templates are using...
  6. Laminator adjustment

Sounds like a loading problem. A while ago I posted my super secret spy trick(masking tape) for making sure prints went in flat. OP will have to get it back to factory spec then use the web-up techniques shown. That along with my tape trick should have things rockin'. You have to find out...
  7. SolJet EJ-640

Makes me glad I kept my SP540V. It runs well and I can fix it with help from the forum. Wonder what's going on with Roland? Fixing the feed/take-up issues should be easy. Nothing more than taking the time to align the components then pin them in place. It's called tramming.(seems Roland...
  8. New Versaworks DUAL Rip?

I want to know what Roland means by immediate finishing. Can I go from printer to lam with no outgassing? New ink set so who knows right now. Not a big fan of a corporation being cryptic though. At least have product demo videos. It is 2015 after all. Maybe they figure us sign folks can't...
  9. anyone have a formula for print and cut decals?

We price per square inch. Pricing varies depending on several factors. Type of contour cut, type of lam etc... Bob's method works great if you want to screw yourself and not make money.
  10. How to manually remove air form ink tube from Roland Versa Camm Vs-540 ?

Large syringe and pull through the cap top.
  11. Will this affect the wall wrapping industry?

    probably causes cancer...
  12. Thinking about getting into digital print

This^^^ I have an SP540V that still hammers out the work. Laminator is an older 65" RS. FWIW there is a complete shop for sale about 30 minutes from me. SP540V, laminator, Fletcher wall mount cutter, software, materials, computers, etc...everything but the building goes. Asking $29K IIRC.
  13. SolJet EJ-640

You hear about it, but I don't know if it's a widespread issue or just a few bad printers. We tend to remember the horror stories, never the successes. On a different note I'm wondering the same thing as Pat. Is it possible to laminate right away? I'd think this is something Roland would...
  14. SolJet EJ-640

Just got notification regarding Roland's new printer. 1L carts, dual heads, and they claim immediate finishing. They also claim up to 35% savings in running costs. It uses their new Roland DG EJ INK. Can run dual CMYK or CMYKLcLmLk configurations. Sounds good on the surface. I'll wait and...
  15. Laminator suddenly stops working in autorun

Either a bad button, faulty relay hooked to the button, fuse or connection. Could be as simple as a loose wire. Electrical contact cleaner can work wonders too. Best bet is to call a tech. No sense getting electrocuted trying to fix it.
  16. Yellow starts dropping out after a foot of printing: VS-640

Check/Replace dampers. A fill test will tell you a lot. Probably wouldn't hurt to do cap tops and wipers as well. For a few bucks you've eliminated a lot of potential issues.
  17. Common signs

We account for the non print area as a percentage of yield. Otherwise I'll print shipping labels, stock labels, etc...
  18. New Machine Purchase coming soon, but which one?

Okay feet to the coals time. What was so loathsome about the Mimakis? Factual data only.
  19. Castek

I second that. Nice to know someone has answers and is willing to help. Roland and Mimaki reps are nowhere to be seen either. Maybe they're scared of us.
  20. New Machine Purchase coming soon, but which one?

A good argument could be made to stay with Mimaki solvent printers. Learning curve if any, should be minimal. All your canned profiles should work too, saving time and money. HP latex has some good points too, but why introduce a "foreign object" into your workflow? Gotta go, I can hear the...
