Well... it's a hell of lot closer than 8.616"!
Figured out how to do it for you. Type the H. Make it 12" with the "object size box". Finish typing the text. It will all be the same point size. Easy, peazy. You don't need no steenkin' script.
I don't change the type units to inches. I just click on the text and type how big I want it in the object size box. The same one you use to size a rectangle. It makes the text exactly the size you type in. (I'm a sign maker too, so this is useful to me)
On the banding issue... Have you tried increasing the fountain fill steps? I get no banding in gradients.
For text sizing.... You just highlight the text and type how high you want it in the object size dialogue box.
Knife offset has nothing to do with where the plotter starts cutting. It will start cutting at the lower right corner of your cutting software. You can position the knife with the plotter buttons to some other spot on the vinyl.
You probably have more memory braincells left than I have. I can never remember the shortcut keys.
I want a "zoom all" button and "undo/redo" buttons. You can still have your shortcut keys. Maybe you can delete buttons you don't use?
I would also like bitmaps to maintain their...

GG,
I always make Illustrator files for the sole purpose of sending them out. I create all "artwork" in Corel and save it as an Illustrator file for my print guy.
Here is a screen capture of what Illustrator help says about "Place". (this is what you get if click "help" and type "place" into...
Corel exports ai files just fine popcorn boy. How does ai do exporting cdr files?
For my edification... what is the difference between an artboard and a page. (let's see if we can keep this thread educational)
One issue that irks me in Illustrator is the use oddball names for stuff. WTF is an "artboard" anyway? Do they mean page? And "place"? Just call it import like every other piece of software on the planet. Stupid stuff that serves no purpose.
One of the best help files I ever saw for Illustrator...
Clipping mask = Powerclip. Seems exactly the same to me.
Love this thread! Just learned something else I didn't know.
Can you make Illustrator open up to a page or "artboard" when it starts or do you have to frig with that dialogue box to choose a page before you can get underway?
