  1. Idea for a new thread......................................................................

Here's one I'll never forget. Two of us were out for a week lettering on-site at a millwright, rigging and moving company. Huge place. So, we're lettering this one day and I went to wash out my brushes and oil them at the end of the day and said to Dave...... hey, the oil jar is empty...
  2. Idea for a new thread......................................................................

Correct. It's not a diss on using computers. It's the modern way. We just didn't have them back then. However, the sign painters of yesteryear were talented. Those who weren't weren't very busy. People/customers gravitated towards shops with good eye to hand coordination, whether it was...
  3. Idea for a new thread......................................................................

Let's say pre 1980. 4b or 4a or arty came out in '82.
  4. Idea for a new thread......................................................................

How many here would be willing to participate in a thread about designing, fabricating, building, making signs, installing them the O L D ways....... BC....... Before Computers ?? Rather than make categories, just jot down a thought or two of doing things the old way, when it had meaning...
  5. Illustrator vs. Gimp

:roflmao: Same ol'..... same ol'. Still arguing over this nonsense after 7 years. Where were you guys before computers ?? What did you argue about, then ?? Use a #12 or an #8 ?? Flat, squirrel or do you use a mahl stick or just clasp your hands together ?? Did you box your paint or just...
  6. Newbie Equipment Question

Regardless of what you end up buying for a printer/cutter, you'll still need to purchase a laminator, because the type prints you mentioned are pretty much useless without laminate on them. You'll need space for that machine, too.
  7. Free money

    :roflmao:
  8. 30 second radio ad?

Do you intend to use it as an advertisement for your business or as a 30 second pep talk for the team ?? Afterall, you are really doing this to help support the team. No one gives 2 hoots about who you are unless you're some big shot like Coke or Budweiser. I think more of the kids drink bud...
  9. Hey Moze....

Evidently, you don't know how to sharpen a pencil. Oy vey..............
  10. Media for stencilled decal

I can't believe this went on almost a year ago and I never got a chance to participate. I always miss out on the good ones. I also see it took that long for the OP to muster up a comeback.
  11. Just In How to Calculate Your Hourly Shop Rate

Why would you throw most of this out the window ?? * Is a wholesaler not a tool ?? * Is it not part of one's cost of doing business ?? * Do you not still have quite a bit of other time and even costs involved, even if you are not actually making the job in-house ?? That sounds like if you...
  12. Should frosted vinyl be installed on the interior or exterior side of windows on storefronts?

If your hand is steady enough to do it the right way by sandblasting the glass, I guess you would be steady enough to paint the glass. The frosted vinyl, came along because of all the talentless people in this industry. Also, those too dumb to do it in the first place.
  13. Routing Lexan

    How 'bout a table-mount disc/belt sander ?? Run it along the sander's table on a 45º angle...
  14. Routing Lexan

According to how much you need to do, could you do it with a table saw ??
  15. I just got asked how long it will take to print 15,000 ft. of magnets! :-D

You'll get it. Don't worry. It'll take a while, but you'll eventually get there. It's like pulling teeth outta your head trying to get your information and quite frankly, I don't have time for reindeer games, so suffice it to say, if ya don't wanna do the intelligent thing and farm it out...
  16. I just got asked how long it will take to print 15,000 ft. of magnets! :-D

Is that printer a roll-to-roll ?? If so, you can't direct rpint to magnetic...... can you ??
  17. I just got asked how long it will take to print 15,000 ft. of magnets! :-D

Something of that size job with a limping printer, there's no way a wholesaler will cost more than you can do it and still make money. Like me, they'd use a flatbed and knock it out quickly. No monkey time needed, whatsoever.
  18. I just got asked how long it will take to print 15,000 ft. of magnets! :-D

Don't bother, just farm it out and be done with it.
  19. I just got asked how long it will take to print 15,000 ft. of magnets! :-D

Well, with the setup the site has, it's impossible to look at your profile, so unless you give us the particulars, your question is kinda lost. * What size magentics ?? * What kinda printer ?? * Is this direct print or print to vinyl, laminate and apply ?? * Are they all the same ?? * What...
