  1. Illy question on Offset Path

I do this a few ways.. usually I stack. Top is the letters, the back of the stroked version of it. When it's time to make a cuttable vector I will "expand" the stroke letters and the weld in "PATHFINDER" and it will be a solid cuttable outline to stack the filled letters. I do it this way...

I have been through that hassle during my time as a production monkey. Cleaning up stuff like that made me keenly aware of production problems whether they are scale related or more usually, lazy inexperienced designer related. Files from other designers? I have a long list of issues I have had...

In my case (and most cases in the States and other countries I have had to design in) I have to draw in scale no matter what program I use. I don't build, print or permit the signs I design, I design and/or prepare the drawings that go out to multiple bidders. By code, they must be reviewed by...
  4. Traffic Signs Needs

Hey, I'm not offended, my cousin is a traffic engineer for a large city. I'm not sure about the Flexi-sign compatibility with that DGI program, but it's way cheaper than the program I used that had all the letter interspacing worked out. If you are thinking about cutting diamond grade I would...

maybe it's not true, I still see basic Corel Draw questions by people who I would have assumes as being "expert"

The work I do I have to design in scale in whatever program I use, otherwise the city will not have any drawings to approve and architects would laugh me out of the office.

I know, thats not what I am talking about... In Illustrator you can assign colors (and title that layer) to your layer, that way when you select a layer in 1/8" scale, it will light the edges up in blue or in 1" scale, in magenta. You know on the fly what layer you are on by the assignable edge...

by the way, have you figured out the transparent gradients in Illustrator? It has it..
  9. long time adobe user WOWed by corel x4

I have played with it. The biggest way I use layers to design in multiple scale. Since you can assign selection edge colors to a layer, you always know what scale you are working in. If you have incorporated layers into your design workflow, play with the layers in Corel before thinking about...

I would switch to Corel if they had better layer tools similar to Illustrator, multiple scales on a single page, better stroke options-- especially the dashes, fix the quirks in their swatches so I can dump my templates and pre-made drawings in with little hassle and more drawing/editing options...
  11. Simple Illustrator question on resize

I don't use a bounding box in Corel or Illustrator. When I was a production monkey I would get odd type stretches and logos slightly off from the original because a power user of the program of choice would get to enthusiastic and let go of the shift key a little too soon and distort the logo...

The polygon shape is pretty sweet in X4, I'm still waiting for a few polygon editing features from Freehand incorporated into Illustrator. By the way, there is Transparent gradients in Illy....

There are quite a few right here, http://www.graffitifonts.net/fonts.htm ...but drawing it out by hand usually goes together better.

I think Lil detail may be a little slow on the issue, he was warned... On your comment Steve C, you can not make/sell a logo or type out Harley Davidson as the name is actually trademarked. By the way, they tried a while back to trademark the sound of a Harley, they gave up, but insist they...
  16. changing curve

Not do it because Harley Davidson aggressively protects it's brand... and if anyone would do it, they would never want to post about it on an open forum.
