Correct.
What you will have in a couple of years is a very pissed off customer wondering why his paint and clearcoat are coming off in chunks when the wrap is removed....
I make 1 time use stencils for people all the time out of good old fashioned Oracal 651.
I just make sure they understand that they can use each one once :)
I think it depends on how it is conducted. If they are actually trying to SELL me something via telephone, I just hang up. i don't have the time or the inclination to deal with them.
If they are doing what another poster stated though, which is introducing themselves and trying to set an...
Your starting point should NEVER be "buy an expensive printer and learn on the job". The success rate for people using this business model is around 20%.
You have to learn the sign business first. Outsource the work until you do enough that it justifies bringing it in-house...
Common sense.
LOL - that's fair :)
Still though, you have to admit. If someone doesn't understand the differences between eco-sol/solvent and water based inks and their applications, do you REALLY think they are ready to purchase a printer? Really?
This is one of those common sense questions.
Think about it. Water-Based ink. Key word - WATER.
What is there A LOT OF in the outdoors? I'll give you a hint - the answer is in the line above this one....
I'll give you an answer, but you aren't gonna like it :)
1. Don't mask unlaminated wrap vinyl.
2. Don't wrap without laminated vinyl.
3. Don't mask laminated vinyl - you need to be able to work the vinyl.
Now, on to the heating question.
Heat does one of two things to wrap vinyl. When the...
We don't have a bucket truck or in house fabrication either. We still do a ton of install work. I can almost guarantee that somewhere in your area is a "sign" company that does NOTHING but install work for other sign companies. We have a great one here that we get fantastic rates from who can...
What he is trying to say (and he's right - it's hard to describe) is that you dont' want to "commit" the vinyl to contoured areas until you have to. Contoured areas provide the most opportunity to use heat, and therefore the best opportunity to hide "extra" vinyl.
When you design, make sure...
I have found that a successful wrap totally depends on the customer's expectations...
When I present a design to a client, it NEVER has flairs (unless removable), bumpers, etc. wrapped. EVER. If they client wants those things wrapped, they will invariably ask why I have not included them in the...
That's a good point Gino. I think there it all depends on what the public in your area expects when they see certain words. If I see the words "Drive-Thru", my assumption is that I can grab a 6 pack on the way home. That might not be the case if you live in a dry county...
The problem with branding yourself as a "Print Shop" is that you will start to get all of the walk-ins who want 20 copies made of their 8.5x11 flyer, and they want to pay $.11/ea for them. That's nothing but lost time.
If you are wanting to focus on the branding side of things, then I would...
There has been a ton of good advice in this thread, but it all really boils down to this...
Due to the fact that anyone with reasonably good credit can afford to buy a printer and become a "Sign Shop", you have only a couple of choices.
1. Become so good at what you do that the difference...
Nice work!
To the question about GamutSkin - It's a good product, and more importantly, if you use it, GAMUTSKIN/Fellers warranties not only the laminate, but the vinyl you use it on, for 5 years (providing it is a cast vinyl).
Doesn't CafePress.com already exist? (j/k)
If you are allowing users to upload without you checking content or providing it, then just read the TOS of any of the plethora of sites that do this kind of thing already and see how they CYA...
Daige = crap
That equation is foolproof. You want a cheap option, get the Big Squeegee - it's cheaper than a Daige and works better.
We have a Royal Soverign. It works great for us.
