I think you should chalk it up as a learning experience at the school of hard knocks. Never do a logo for free. Always assume the client will send it to someone else.
I learn't the same lesson at the same school a few years back.
If people actually took the time to read Mike Steven's Mastering layout this type of design would not have hapened. Your biggest problem was defining the message the sign needs to convey, proper kerning, and good use of positive vs. negative space.

Seriously, i think this guy was actually driving someone over on the Quebec side since this intersection is just after one of the bridges coming in from Ottawa. Plus his phone number is an Ontario one. I can't imagine needing this...

If they are hell bent on magnetics i would try to sell them a pair of door magnets or a little bigger to put on the side panels and a smaller on the back. Putting the entire message on one magnetic with a nice clean layout.
