  1. To go graphtec or summa?

Cutting, Graphtec. Sublime cutting and higher throughput, even at the same speed as any other cutter Contour-cutting, Summa. OPOS X is the bomb. Way more accurate and automated than anything on else the planet (friction cutter). New Technology: Summa's OPOS CAM is the bomb on...
  2. Swap out cut files for Summa??

Install the plug-in in Illy. It does the export for you, and then opens it in WinPlot. Be sure to have the vector (outline) selected in Illy before using the WinPlot plug-in. Bitmaps, of course, will not cut unless vectorized. Summa Support will guide you through this. Just tell them the...
  3. Hello!

Howdy from Windeck, Germany! (I'm a Texan here on business for a few weeks)
  4. new to the site

    Welcome from TX!!
  5. Swap out cut files for Summa??

Go to http://www.summa.be/pages_en/software.html and download WinPlot. It's free and is a cutting program for Summa cutters -- with a plug-in for Illustrator. Best,
  6. contour cut ARMS problem FC8000

CoCut Pro. (www.eurosysrems.lu or www.cocut.com) You have the best cutter. Use the best cutting / contour-cutting software. CoCut is that -- by a mile! (Oops; 1609 meters :^) Cheers,
  7. Get 'R' Done

This is somewhat helpful: http://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/ A dead-on match is a 50/50 proposition. Often times I find something close, convert to curves and tweek as needed. Get "R" Done is a pretty small number of characters. "Close then tweek" is often faster than finding the exact...
  8. Hi from chilly England

Welcome from Texas ... but I'm in Windeck, Germany at the moment and feeling about as cold as you, no doubt.
  9. Favor please

Export from Corel to an AI or EPS (EPS is better, with no Tiff header). If you don't have Corel, email it to someone who does ... including me. Best,
  10. Newbie question

LOL! You've just nailed the reason I'm spending 6 weeks in Germany :^) You bet; better Web sites and an emphasis on the merit of our tools (award-winning, in fact) is my #1 priority in the US and Europe. The company, products and customer relations is sooooo different than the Web site...
  11. Newbie question

Hey B, Thanks for the good wishes and the very flattering endorsement. Indeed, I'm back in the game. And our stuff is targeted to be available in the Americas, beginning with ISA in April. The only issue is whether I'll get out of Germany in time for ISA ... much to do here. But we're...
  12. Newbie question

The EDGE is ideal for specialty stickers, vis a vis better spot color and media selection. The DC4sx (preferrable to DC3) is better from a production standpoint, way ... and size of course, way, than the EDGE / EDGE II. The integrated print and cut plus auto ribbon-changing on Summa printers...
  13. 30 inch printer???

I wouldn't disagree with the sagacity of your advice. But I do know of many thermal transfer printer users (Summa DC-class, ColorCAMM and Gerber EDGE) that do not laminate MX and the like graphics ... with no complaints of which I'm aware. If clearcoating after applying decals, unlaminated...
  14. 30 inch printer???

New: www.summastore.com (DC4sx); www.signsupplyusa.com (Roland VersaCAMM); www.signwarehouse.com (Mutoh printer / Graphtec cutter ... OEM versions that are lower-cost than branded Mutoh and Graphtec products). Caveat, if doing a separate print-then-cut process, a Graphtec with ARMS or Summa...
  15. 30 inch printer???

I'd suggest a Summa DC4sx, insofar as MX graphics are, essentially, smaller-format decals. With inkjet (Roland, Mutoh, Mimaki, etc.), you'll need to laminate. So integrated print-cut, which the Roland VersaCAMM employs, is pretty-much moot. It's a print-remove-let dry-laminate-reload in...
  16. need a printer

Yep; I second all mentions of SignWarehouse. 48" is a nice size for wraps ... handling wider media / panels can be dicey, especially when starting out. And they have the market cornered with the PrismJET VJ-48, a Mutoh-made, Wave-printing, 1440 dpi, high-speed, eco-sol marvel. The output...
  17. Summa DC4sx ?

Yes! For Thermal Transfer print-and-cut (which actully makes sense; inkjet output needs lamination; TT does not) -- DC4sx is the best choice bar none ... IMHO Jim D
  18. DC3 plus issues

No argument on DuraChrome (aka DC1) and DC2. But DC3 and DC4 are an entirely different implmentation. They really don't have the pass-line (banding) issues that the 1s and 2s do. The main reason is the superior media feed system, which puts marks on the face of the vinyl as opposed to an encoder...
  19. DC3 plus issues

This sounds like more than a user issue. It might be a problem with the media feed. If techs have been on-site, I'll assume all was calibrated as best as possible. The cut being "off" is the clue that something in the equipment, and not user-settings/file-setup, is the culprit. IMO, Jim
