See this machine has no belts it's a spur gear off of stepper to a reduction gear which is connected by shaft to pinion gear on rack. It has an offset flange that you rotate to increase tension. It was loose on one side of y. Tightened and cleaned it right up

Well after searching, visiting w the various printer manufacturers, I came across a deal I couldn't pass up. It's used but in good shape. I think we did well for our first printer until we're ready to move up. Best part, no payments.

Its funny but the amount of play between the spur and barrel gear were exactly the depth of the ridges I was finding in the work piece. Learn something new everyday. :).

Understood. I feel like there is some slop in it just due to the fact its over 9 years old and theyre steppers. So hold down, nodes, slop. What can I do about the slop. I was under the impression that's what backlash compensation is for.

It has a vac system but I don't have a pump for it. I had been screwing the material down to the spoils board which I've seen others do. Will look into getting pump.
