Only ever had trouble with high speed banner(sometimes ink transferring to back of banner), polypropylene and gloss photo paper ie anything that the ink doesnt absorb quickly on. Never any dramas with vinyls.
All the "Green" or "Eco" stuff seems to come in gloss only, but maybe you can use a water based liquid matte overlaminate like clearshield or something to get the finish your after?

You can try these guys for the Avery, otherwise 3m would be your only option i think.
Edit:
You can also try the Oracal 970RA from http://www.ags.com.au if you have no luck with 3m...
Depends if your the only user or not.
I ran with no Antivirus for 2 years, just windows firewall, and no issues at all.
But I do ghost my initial installation just in case.
First thing I do when installing Win 7 is turn off UAC...and leave it off! Its a PITA in my opinion.
Never had any dramas with it turned off, but I'm pretty careful with what is and isnt installed on my pc.
Avery DOL 4300 is what i always used and never had any issues with it. Its a polyester, so you can put it over just about anything. It's also super thin(23 micron) so would be a beatch to apply by hand though...
Coming from someone who had a brief experience with them 20 years ago, they are designed to kill and take limbs off people..thats all :P
That does make 'em pretty cool though...:cool1:
Probably too late to help, but Avery have a film called Tattoo Film, which appears as a lighter shade on darker backgrounds, and darker shade on lighter backgrounds.
Haven't used Oracal but even the 3M supplier here prefers the Avery :P
Has an extra layer of clear over the top which brings the thickness up to 80mic for easier handling(and longer life) and has the EA RS adhesive which i love using. And also comes in 1370mm wide(54 inch).
My 0.02c :)
