  1. Software for Summa Plotter?

Correction - Mac Sign My apologies - the program I use is called "MacSign". It is the bridge program for Mac.
  2. What's that font?

  3. Software for Summa Plotter?

I design in Illustrator and save as an EPS. Open in Mac Cut (Mac version of Winplot) and cut. This is a bridge program that does nothing but cut, so you have to have everything the way you want it before you save. It's free from Summa.
  4. Mactac Translucent?

Thanks, both! Was worried about previous terrible reviews of Mactac in older posts. We had catastrophic Avery failures in the past, and don't want the same issues.
  5. Mactac Translucent?

How long has it been hanging? Mactac claims 5-7 longevity, but I would rather 7 than 5. I need red, and i understand that color is first to fade. I know some have had trouble with the adhesive as well.
  6. Mactac Translucent?

Anyone using Mactac 9700 translucent vinyl? A 5-7 year calendared translucent. Less expensive, but how does it hold up?
  7. Looking for help with my logo...

    #3 is more interesting.
  8. Husk Signs for channel letters

Husk Signs in Indiana - Can anybody give them a recommendation? So far their communication has been great, and low wholesale pricing.
  9. Temporary backlit cut vinyl

Thought so. I see backlits around here that look like they used something other than translucent that are borderline ugly. Thought it might suffice. Thanks.
  10. Temporary backlit cut vinyl

Realtor wants a cheap "Available" on an empty backlit strip mall sign. I would like to price it with an intermediate cal vinyl, and with translucent and let him decide. How long do you think something like Oracal 651 would last on a backlit? Considered banners, but there is nothing to bungee to.
  11. Called back - backlit is washed out

Gino, some background... This was not my first rodeo. I worked for a commercial printer for 15 years, but I did not actually run the printer. Hence I was not aware of the technicalities of actually printing a backlit. My husband is an electrician and has two bucket trucks, and we are fully...
  12. Called back - backlit is washed out

My sales rep brought up the subject of double striking. I told him to use their judgement, they being the "experts". It was his call. The graphics were so simple, I did not deem it necessary to drive 2 hours to look at a proof, so I told them to run it. I worked at another sign printer for...
  13. Called back - backlit is washed out

Thanks to all who responded. It will help my negotiations. I am inclined not to charge my customer for the redo, since I knew the sign wasn't right all along. He's a good customer. Just wondering, how much of a break do you think the printer should give me? It's tricky because so much time...
  14. Called back - backlit is washed out

coulda woulda shoulda My choice would have been cut, but printers like to print because it's faster than installing cut. I let them decide how to build it, because that is what they do. I just called them again, and am waiting for a call back. I am curious as too how you guys would handle...
  15. Called back - backlit is washed out

I expect to chip in...I should not have accepted the sign. I should have known this would come back and bite me. I just didn't know it would take so long. The print was laminated and applied to translucent lexan. I don't think the cabinet is underlit. The red print is large red block type, and...
  16. Called back - backlit is washed out

We purchased a large backlit cabinet sign from a reputable wholesale printer. Cabinet construction was nice, but when the sign is lit, it looks washed out. I didn't like it when I picked it up, but agreed to give it a try. This was our first cabinet installation, and the printer is a long time...
  17. Electrical Signage help

Check out 21st Century Signs in Williamsport PA. Very helpful.
  18. Coming out

Time to introduce myself. I started working in a photo lab doing lithograph overlays to put type on commercial photos before digital came of age. The small shop I worked in grew from a photo lab in Mom's basement to a large format printer specializing in vehicle graphics. I've been off work...
  19. don't try this at home

I am the wife. I need to brush up on my vinyl install skills. I found this in the scrap box. Anyhow, do you use the BS on cut vinyl on vertical installations?
  20. don't try this at home

I have been reading posts and watching videos on the big squeegee, and was intrigued. Looking around, I found a nice little glass shelf with a plastic edge that that was similar in size and shape. I decided to give it a try, just to see if I liked handling something that big before I ordered...
