Setup for a 24" letter with a small squeegee and a yard tool would be the same on a vertical surface like he is suggesting, the application would take maybe 1 or two seconds for each side of a hinge. I think it is a great tool for this type of thing and keep one with me in my install kit along...

You can use water based gripper from Glidden (also sold at home depot) over oil or water and it bonds well. No need to use Kilz or Zinzer. And I don't know what the post was about earlier but Latex absolutely comes in gloss finishes.
