  1. Gerber Swivel Knife Assembly

This machine was the deal of the century for me. I bought it for $100 from a guy who bought the building that used to house a sign shop. I cleaned it up, replaced the cutting strip, bought new blades and did some minor repairs. The previous owner was using some tape to hold the right bale arm...
  2. Gerber Swivel Knife Assembly

That is what I was afraid of. I do not know for sure that mine is bad but I have a strong suspicion. I seem to lose a cut here and there on smaller letters. For example, I might cut a job where the letter "M" completely misses the cut where the knife has to reverse over 90 degrees in the bottom...
  3. Gerber Swivel Knife Assembly

I have checked with 2 local sign supply companies and the blade holder for a Gerber Envision plotter is nearly $150. This looks to be almost 2 to 3 times as much as anything I can find for Graphtec, Suma, or Roland. Is there a good source for these or am I stuck paying $150?
  4. EnVision 375 (Comm problem) Cable?

I know this is resolved but I found a cheap fix for my envision plotter. I will post here in case anyone else runs into this issue. I bought a null modem adapter from a local computer repair guy and added it to the serial cable I had. Total price was $5.
  5. Printable Vacuformable backlit

It was not for me. I did the printing for them. My client is NW signs.
  6. Illustrator CS6: What do YOU think?

I installed CS6 last night to test on a wrap for a MCI J4500 transit bus. This bus is about 45' wide by 10' tall. Long story short, I was able to export an entire bus side to a tiff file with bleed in less than a minute. The final pixel count was 54300x1300 pixels. This is well over the 32000...
  7. Printable Vacuformable backlit

Update. We reversed printed the graphic to 3M 8518. We then applied 3M 7125 over the laminate reversing the normal process so to speak. Our client removed the release liner from the lam and applied it to clear CAB and formed it to shape. They seem to be happy with the process.
  8. Extremely Fast Wide Format

The oce velocity concept is designed around memjet technology. My Oce rep mentioned the machine Friday. There is not an official release date yet but my rep acted like it is was a sure thing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kytCuWwNWvY
  9. darn illustrator artboard is too small

I like 1/10 scale. No major math needed, just move your decimal point 1 place. 455'x108" becomes 45.5x10.8. Piece of cake.
  10. Printable Vacuformable backlit

A client of mine does vacuforming an wants me to produce a some adhesive vinyl to apply second surface to his material before he forms it. The end result is something like a gas globe. Does anyone have any experience with this? I have a few ideas but they are all based on conjecture. We produce...
  11. Fuji COLOR+ Inks

I run Fuji Sericol NH inks in my XL Jet and EF inks in my flatbed. Both perform great.
  12. google drive

Twice the space as dropbox for free. Pretty sweet.
  13. Vertical racks

The big challenge is actually knowing what to call them. I finally found a web site that refers to them as M-bars which makes sense looking at them.
  14. Vertical racks

I need to find a source for vertical racks to tie into my teardrop racks. Attached is a photo of what I am looking for. Any ideas?
  15. roller marks in print

I am of the school of thought that believes you should lower your preheat.
  16. GS6000 weaving problem

I had a few medias that did this regularly but only in the high ink areas. Essentially, the ink was not penetrating the media quickly enough and would puddle with the ink from the second pass. Due to the microweave pattern on the epson, this looks like a wavy dark line. I had a few products from...
  17. GS6000 weaving problem

You are probably over inking. Try recreating the profile for that media. It may also be an alignment issue. Especially if you have replaced a head recently and not done a service mode alignment.
  18. Reducing glare on digital print.

The spray is the way to go at this point I think. For future reference, 3M makes a ultra matte cast overlam called 8915.
  19. Master Vinyl Cutter problems

You can also add an adapter to the cable to make it a null modem cable. This is what I did.
  20. Camera equipment

I think KEH camera still buys used equipment. www.keh.com
