I use LCD and LED monitors and calibrate them all with a Spyder and they come out looking pretty much the same, LED seems a fraction darker.(hardly noticeable)

If your cutting alot....adjust your downforce as the blade bluntens a little or check the blade for bluntness and replace if necessary. (I use a jewelers eye glass to check blades.) If it is still doing it with a new blade I would check blade depth. The blade should cut thru the vinyl and leave...

Only problem with aluminium rulers is that each time you cut something, the blade can shave a small amount off the cutting edge. I have just replaced all mine, as they all had a curve inwards. Get the Drytac or any brand WITH the steel inserted edge.
