  1. XC-540, Versaworks and an X-Rite DTP-41, anyone get it to work?

What color is it? The older units were an off white and the (newer) USB units were gray. Considering X-Rite wanted $750 to upgrade my DTP41UV to a USB cable I would have to assume it's more than just a cable swap. Try contacting X-Rite and see if there's any way they can help you find out...
  2. Market price

Which dealers are offering it at that price?
  3. How to seal this deal?/Trying to sell a wrap

You'll never get it wrapped without putting a ton of fingerprints on the adhesive side of the clear that will remain visible on wrap.
  4. Market price

Anybody have any idea what the current market price is for a Jv33-130 these days? I've seen prices all over the map.
  5. Another Summa ?

Thanks Dclet. Won't the guy @ Wasatch be surprised when I tell him! I'm not seeing anybody recommending flexi. Any particular reason? I figured it would be pretty popular.
  6. Another Summa ?

I'm told Wasatch doesn't support the tangential head, just the D series.
  7. Another Summa ?

What rip are you guys using to drive a Summa T head in a print/cut environment? It needs to drive a Mimaki JV33 and the summa t head, plus I have to have full ink limit (channels and total) and profile linearization capabilities on the print side.
  8. T head ?

I'm looking at the S140 T head. Seems it's an additional $1500 or so for the option. I want to have the option to handle the tougher reflective materials, but the immediate chore will be cutting convex vinyl graphics that can be up to 20 mils thick. I just like the way the summas are...
  9. T head ?

What are the real world advantages of the tangential head on the summa cutter?
  10. I've had an epiphany....

I welcome the hobbyist. The basement hack that's using the antiquated equipment and charging $12/hr for design. Bring them on. Once a customer has used them, they understand the whole "you get what you pay for" premise. I've had more than one leave due to the "huge" savings they were getting...
  11. RIP Question

I'm looking a print/cut rip that will allow me to set all my ink limits and linearize my profiles that I'll be creating with profiler pro. The printer will be set-up with both a dual CMYK and a CMYKLcLmOG ink configuration as projects demand. It's a small network, with macs used as the...
  12. Print quality vs Setup, 6 color or dual CMYK

An easy thing to check is switching to single pass mode. If the banding disappears it's due to the inks being laid down differently in each direction. On one pass you'll get something like KCYMLcLm and on the return pass you'll get LmLcMYCK With dual CMYK they set the ink channels to print the...
  13. Hyvision monitors?

I recently picked up the Samsung 275T and couldn't be happier. Grabbed it from a local big box electronics retailer on sale for $850 and I've attached a gamut comparison below showing how it displays about 90% of the Adobe RGB space. A little weak in the blues for my taste, but a great value for...
  14. JV5 vs. JV3

The JV33 although only having a single head lays down 8 ink channels in a single pass. You get the same laydown as the JV5 in 2 pass mode (when print ing dual CMYK) just without the additional speed of having 4 staggered print heads. No need to switch to single pass mode on either machine with...
  15. ITL Inks

Thanks Neil, I make all my own profiles with a DTP41UV and a copy of Monaco Profiler Platinum which can support hexachrome and 4 + 4spot colors for custom profiles. I'm least worried about that end of it. Color management is kind of my forte. I can't use the dual CMYK because the highlights...
  16. Weird error message in PhotoShop..all you experts please help.

Sometimes you can place the file into another application and then convert it backwards to overcome minor corruptions. You'll lose any editable layers and such with this method though. Most of the time you're hooped.
  17. Photoshop or Illy

Indesign allows you to work easily with both formats to create your layout. Plus it has superior text handling capabilities and creates much smaller file sizes.
  18. Can anyone help with Ill CS2 please?

Scale the resolution of your images up by the same percentage as you're scaling the illustrator file down. ie: if you want a 120 dpi image at final size then work at 50% (1/2) of final size in illustrator with 240 dpi (x2) images, 25% percent (1/4) of final with 480 dpi (x4) images, etc. Your...
  19. ITL Inks

Hey guys, first post here. Looks like a knowledgeable bunch to bounce this off of. Does anybody have any experience using the ITL brand inks (JV2) with their Mimaki JV33's or JV5's? They have an Orange/Green ink available and it would be nice to run a CMYKLcLmOG inkset for the type of work I...
