  1. How was this decal made?

Yup, do it all the time. Kind of a pain but works fine.
  2. Digital media and laminate

Heck even that's pushing it, I'd bet we're 10-1... By the way, getting to the OP's question, I recommend the General Formulations 203 gloss. Not sure how it compares to the Orajet you're using in terms of cost, but we've been using the 203 for several years now and have zero complaints.
  3. Digital media and laminate

Why are you laminating for short term applications? If you're using even an eco-solvent printer, you should get at least 1 year durability outdoors unlaminated.
  4. Happy Birthday Island Sign

    Happy Birthday Doug!!!
  5. Banners in High Winds, Failure.

Use heavier material first and foremost, 18oz or 20oz. 15oz is too light for that application. Hemming the vertical edges would have probably helped in your case but moving up to a heavier material would have avoided it and you wouldn't have to hem the edges.
  6. Been doing some wrapping.....

Lookin' good Kurt! Keep it up!
  7. Recycling Ink Cartridges

I'd heard about Staples taking them, but if they only take 10 a month we'll never be able to get rid of them at the rate we go through them. I still like the charity idea better anyway.
  8. Recycling Ink Cartridges

Good question, you beat me to it, I was going to post this this week too. We have hundreds of cartridges we've been saving up. A while back I found someplace that would pay something like $.50 or $1 ea for them but I can't find them now. I like the idea of finding a way to recycle them for...
  9. Losing repeat orders...

I agree with everything else that's been posted here. I don't think pricing has too much to do with repeat work, if they bought from you once, the price couldn't have been that bad... Getting repeat work comes down to service and quality. Were you attentive to their needs when you worked for...
  10. What surface are you cutting on

Yes. If you're smart, get regular flat rulers. We have both, I make my employees use the safety ones because they always manage to nick or cut something if they use the regular ones. On the rare occasion I ever go in the back and do production, I won't touch the safety ones, I only use the...
  11. Need help buying my first printer!

Everybody is being hard on the guy. So he doesn't understand pricing, at least he's here asking questions. His design work is really good, maybe with a little coaching from all of us he can be turned around. He has a good product, he just needs to learn how to sell it for the premium it...
  12. Need help buying my first printer!

Polypro (as in polypropylene?) Or POSpro? For $1.00 p.s.f. regardless of media, it's no wonder you're having trouble with your supplier. If it's POSpro, nobody will come close to that price, the material alone costs a buck a square foot. If you buy your own printer, be aware there is no way...
  13. Presntation Graphics

Your work is really awesome, one of the better sign designers I've seen. The presentations aren't half bad either.
  14. GS6000 take-up

We just had this installed today, we were having major trouble running wallpaper media. We haven't run it too much yet but it looks like it will solve the problem. I've got my other GS6000 thread going so when we get to evaluate the media feeder I will update that.
  15. A Good Deal? Question for equipment guys!

lol, they're not in the industry technically... well, I guess they inserted themselves into it...
  16. A Good Deal? Question for equipment guys!

whaaaaa? 3500 machines?!? Dear lord! Who is this?
  17. Formal howdy from indianapolis

    Nice work Robby!
  18. Formal howdy from indianapolis

Welcome Robby! Post up your website, we'd all like to see your work!
  19. A Good Deal? Question for equipment guys!

+1, if you're looking to do signs and banners, you really need a solvent printer. Yes, you can do limited things with the HP, but you won't really be competitive. My advice would be to keep your eyes open for a sign shop going out of business. You can probably pick up a decent solvent machine...
  20. 60in vs 64in printer

We have 64s so I can't compare the two, but you're right, there is a lot of self-adhesive media available in 60" widths but 60" banner material is few and far between, you definitely don't have a tremendous selection, or at least one that's readily available. Banner is always made in odd sizes...
