  1. Are we green yet?

Mike, if it's not to expand you business, what is it? Don't get me wrong, I'm not all about pollution and oil spills and who cares about the environment, let's pour waste ink in the aquifer, but I think it's important to consider it from a sustainability and marketing standpoint, otherwise it...
  2. Are we green yet?

I think within 5 years if you're not able to sell a product that is "100% green" you're going to be left in the dust. We're not located in a very forward thinking market but we are getting asked about it more and more as time goes on. I hate it and I personally think "green" is a little...
  3. anyone use signline.com?

What are you buying from them that they can't quote shipping? Just yard signs?
  4. unethical vendors

Well thanks, that doesn't make me feel better! :ROFLMAO:
  5. unethical vendors

They've been a supplier to the color segment for years. We bought our first printer, an Encad Novajet Pro, years and years ago when that was state of the art. This was back when they were in a 3000s.f. warehouse. If you've seen their facility now you know it's a far cry from that and fairly...
  6. Any ideas why the curvy test print?

Like I said I may be totally wrong, it's the only thing I can think of, aside from maybe just buckling media causing nozzle deflection...
  7. Any ideas why the curvy test print?

Do your prints look curvy like that too? If so, clean the encoder strip to see if that helps. Honestly I don't know if the encoder strip is functional when printing test patterns but I would assume so. That looks like the symptom of a dirty one though.
  8. unethical vendors

It's accurate. I found out from another vendor (and former employer) that more than likely they'll be running the posters on 20lb bond on an engineering inkjet, so it makes me feel a little better than we're not comparing apples and apples. I'm not sure if my client is aware they'll be getting a...
  9. Feedback on GraphixCalc

We just estimate in it and transfer the numbers to QB and add other elements like labor, etc. in there. At first it's a little cumbersome but once you get used to it it goes very quickly and it's accurate. We've looked and looked into other programs that combine estimating and invoicing into one...
  10. digital printed decals with all cuts ruined

Clean your pinch rollers really well with acetone, make sure they're gripping the vinyl well. Mylar films and films with slick or synthetic liners will have a bit more trouble tracking than regular paper liners, so clean pinch rollers are a must. Also calibrate your OPOS, it goes off after a...
  11. Feedback on GraphixCalc

It's a wonderful program, it's really helped our business alot. FatCat is right, you have to dial it in correctly to get it to be accurate to your business, which requires a substantial amount of tweaking and trial and error. But this is true with any pricing program I suspect. Once you get your...
  12. unethical vendors

Steve, no I'm not a distributor. We're just a small 7 person shop trying to do really good work for our clients. We have to buy our supplies and consumables from the same places as everyone else on here.
  13. unethical vendors

Because in theory it wouldn't be "fair" to the manufacturer's resellers, like my vendor in question. 3M, Mimaki, HP, Avery, Oracal, Sihl, etc., these guys protect their resellers, they have their backs, not ours. It's the resellers, our vendors, who in turn look out for us, or at least are...
  14. Inkjet Paper you can also write on!

Sihl Trisolv 3686 poster paper will work great for what you're doing. Wypet dry erase laminate also works well with this paper, as well as vinyl.
  15. unethical vendors

Slamdunkpro, I don't expect the manufacturers to put an end to it. I'd sure like it if they did but realistically I know there's little if anything little ol' me can do to stop it. Besides, in this economy, I'm sure as long as they're getting paid for their ink and equipment and media they...
  16. unethical vendors

Mike, I'm not leaving anything out. Do you think it's ethical or fair business practice to do what they're doing? Sure they'll get away with it, sure they've "found a better way". But in business just like life, there is right and wrong. People get away with wrong every day but that doesn't make...
  17. unethical vendors

Man am I disappointed right now. This'll be lengthy, I apologize in advance, I just need to vent. We just lost a $100k/year client to one of our vendors. This "vendor" is someone we've been doing business with for almost 15 years. We've bought 8 or 9 pieces of equipment from them...
  18. most unusual BBQ

a fresh homemade pizza is fantastic if grilled, I don't see why a leftover pizza would not be pretty decent as well... I've not grilled anything too insanely unusual. I did grill some antelope once, that was decent, but just tasted like beef (I wouldn't have known it wasn't if I hadn't overpaid...
  19. Seaming 2 pieces of vinyl banner together

HH66 vinyl cement, works great, but smells horrible.
