  1. Help with color setup on JV3-160SP/Onyx

What do you mean they're too dark? Do they just look dark compared to a monitor or are they noticeably waaaay to dark? Canned profiles aren't the greatest sometimes, but they're also not terrible, and the Orajet 3651 profile from Oracal is one of the better ones out there and should yield good...
  2. Interior Sign Install Question...

French cleat, use lots of VHB and epoxy and it'll stay put.
  3. This should be illegal

No, it doesn't redirect you to a site to sell you something, it makes you think it's windows and it's found a virus, by clicking "remove" you think you're telling your computer to remove a virus but it actually installs all sorts of nasty stuff that's hard to remove. It automatically burrows...
  4. This should be illegal

Yeah, that's a nasty one, it got my wife, she didn't know any better and clicked something that let it install something. We had to reinstall windows on that computer, thankfully it was just our home laptop and nothing important was on it. We got the same thing on a computer here at the shop and...
  5. Quest to expand my skills

Depends on what business you're in. If you're strictly signs and don't do much "print for pay" type work where you are supplied print ready files, it's probably not necessary to have alot of software beyond what you are proficient at and what you get good results from. If you accept alot of...
  6. How much printing will a set of inks do?

Try to keep on hand 2-4 sets of ink minimum, and you can get away with fewer black cartridges than the others. And go with 440ml carts if you can, it's just more convenient. Something you might ask your supplier is if they can do some sort of "consignment" ink inventory for you. They may not...
  7. Quest to expand my skills

Whether or not Corel is a good program is irrelevant here, it is a good program and knowing how to use it is definitely beneficial. Regardless of why Adobe is the industry standard program, it is what it is and it's much more beneficial to have an in-depth understanding of at least the basics of...
  8. does anyone print 360x540 12 pass?

Try a 6 pass profile or a 720x720 4 pass for vinyl, it'll work, I promise. No reason to print at the slower 12 pass when you can get the same quality at twice the speed.
  9. Quest to expand my skills

Honestly My guess is none or next to none. I spend alot of time in alot of ad agency's and designer's offices and I've never seen a single corel box or book but in pretty much every one I see box after box and book after book of adobe products. They use Adobe creative suite because they have the...
  10. does anyone print 360x540 12 pass?

I've got a 360x540 6-pass bidir profile for our JV3 that prints great. We use it alot for yard signs, up close it's pretty grainy since the resolution is low, but it's a fast profile and the color and saturation is about as good as it gets and it's totally band free. The heat is set to 45-43 and...
  11. Quest to expand my skills

Photoshop is a must if you want to expand your skills. We use it more than Illustrator anymore. Then Illustrator. Everybody says Corel and I suppose if you never plan to expand beyond the confines of the sign industry Corel is a good tool to know, but if you want to be able to work with outside...
  12. Team Leno or Team Coco?

+1, or team History Channel. I'm team Pawn Stars!
  13. wall vinyl with dry erase laminate

Malkin, your wall murals have held up for a few years using the 3165RA? Were they laminated? Do you know what kind of paint they were adhered to? Barbie, can you laminate the Avery 2611 film? I considered it but I thought it was more of a short term product, can it be used long term?
  14. Lamination....HELP!!!!

Are you still having problems Circleville? PM me if so, I'll see if I can help. We've laminated countless full rolls through our RSC without more than .25" or so of side-to-side walk. Sounds like the machine is either not calibrated correctly or you are loading the material wrong or a...
  15. Dimensional lettering install

At that distance I'd just use a stainless steel panhead self tapping screw as well, paint them to match the letter finish and you'll never see them. 080 Aluminum is okay but you'll probably still see a little waviness to it between the corrugations. I would have used something like Dibond or...
  16. Help on 2nd SATA HD

I have nothing to add but a childish ROFLMAO.
  17. PopUp from Fellers or other No Curl??

I've not tried PopUp from Fellers but I've heard mixed reviews on it. We use PosPRO 200+ and while it's expensive, especially compared to some others out there, it really prints beautifully.
  18. Epson Stylus Pro 11880 for vinyl, banners etc?

Nope. They'll come crawling back to you when the ink on their banner runs after the first decent rain, then snatch the epson up from them, it is a good printer, just for indoor stuff only.
  19. take off molding or leave it on?

Sometimes if the molding has locator pins or mounting snaps that go into holes in the body we cover the holes with a piece of reflective vinyl to give the wrap some body in the area around the hole. I'm always hesitant to remove molding if there are mounting snaps or pins with holes in the sheet...
  20. Laminates

We use alot of the Lamex 3-, 5- and 10-mil luster embossed polycarb laminate from Fellers. Nice stuff, it's a little difficult to work with but we've never had a problem.
