  1. JV3 Error 10 - wtf???

How long is your firewire cable?
  2. Anyone used the banner hemmer

That looks like it would be a pain in the neck to do anything over 3' long. Imaging trying to do a 20' hem on that, it'd take 3 or 4 people to hold the banner up, unless you built some sort of rack or something off the edge of your work tables... Plus it looks to be awful slow...
  3. Printer Recommendations

We have two mimakis and love them. Nothing but excellent results from both Mimaki's technical support and the local dealer's service techs. It all depends on who you buy from, so do alot of research on the dealer before making a decision. I know Advantage Sign Supply has a good reputation and...
  4. Worlds first shipment of Non Toxic Vinyl

Man you guys don't do much volume do you...
  5. Ahhh ink may be keeping me from buying

With a 30" eco-solvent machine and a window right near it you'll be fine. Might put a little exhaust fan in the window to pull some extra air out but I doubt that's even necessary honestly. That ink isn't that harmful, nor can you physically output enough of it with that machine to give yourself...
  6. Jv33 & cutter or cjv30

We have a JV33-160, and a Summa S160D. We've had the summa plotter for about 3 years, had it since we bought our first JV3, but they're still the same price, about $9k (and worth every penny and then some), and we just bought our JV33 this spring for $15,900. It's an extremely impressive machine...
  7. Jv33 & cutter or cjv30

Seperate machines are much more efficient/useful if ou do a decent volume. I couldn't imagine haing to work around having to print and cut on one machine, that would hinder production significantly.
  8. Fellers "Gamut" and "Solvex" wrap vinyls

I honestly don't think it's even possible to post heat that stuff to the temps the recommend. To get it that hot it will melt, it won't take nearly as much heat as 180C or 3951RA. And if you have to post heat the stuff when it's applied to just a flat surface like a vehicle door, you pretyt...
  9. Fellers "Gamut" and "Solvex" wrap vinyls

HAven't tried the Solvex, but have tried the Gamut. I'm not positive but I'm pretty sure it's rebranded Avery MPI1005EZRS, it looks, smells, prints, and installed exactly the same. We used it on a few vans, not full wraps, actually just printed/cut stuff mostly. Both vans had to be redone within...
  10. Fellers Ordering

I was just having this discussion with someone yesterday. Fellers is like calling in an order to the sears catalog or something. Some of the reps are nice, but there's no real service or support there. You're just a number, they're just a call center. They might as well be located in Mumbai and...
  11. Few new jobs...

Really awesome John! Seriously, are you just surrounded by churches? There must be one every block!
  12. Mini Cooper Strip Template

Are you after the bonnet/boot stripes or the stripe at the bottom of the doors? Bonnet/boot stripes are typically 4" wide and are straight, no curve to them. I can get a picture of mine on Monday if you can wait until then. The door stripes are a little different, you'd have to search the...
  13. presentation folders

Can anybody recommend a good source for presentation folders? We're getting ready to try a new promotion and we need some. Normally we buy from 4over but they have a 100pc minimum on their folders, we really only need a couple hundred. Been looking around and found VistaPrint will do 250...
  14. super high tech!!! lol

    How cool is that!
  15. looking for new desktop printer

If you want high-quality (as in print shop quality) prints out of an office machine, you might look into a used Xerox Doc12 or something similar, especially if you are set on printing marketing materials in house.
  16. looking for new desktop printer

We have an HP 2600 color laser printer that's been used and abused for 4+ years and keeps plugging along. I paid $299 for it new, it's dirt cheap to run full color pages on. All of our estimates and invoices are printed on it in full color. I also have an Epson 1400 inkjet on my desk, runs up to...
  17. The Secrets of Tangential

A tangential cutting heat has a motor that "steers" the knife blade, instead of a more typical dragknife blade that just rotates in the holder as the head and media move around. Typically at a sharp corner the knife is lifted , turned while up, and then dropped back down. Cuts are very accurate...
  18. mimaki jv33 heat setting

Depends on the material. We keep the dryer at 50 all the time. For something like 3651, it's 45/40/50. For 3951 I believe it's 40/38/50. I think 3551 is 42/42/50. 3165 is 50/45/50. 30/30/50 is too low, the material can take alot more heat than that.
  19. hard drive clicking?

Yup, back it up immediately, and if possible, don't shut it down until the backup is done. More than once I've had the problem and said "I'll back it up tomorrow", only to try to boot the following day and have a dead drive.
  20. Mimaki JV3- 160 SP

Does it do this on all vinyls or just this one? Have you tried other profiles on this vinyl or just one?
