If you can afford it, go with a laser engraver. We have a EGX-600 Roland and a laser machine and 90% of or nametags are made on the laser. The egx-600 is mainly used for engraving phenolic materials which are not laserable.
I've got a similar problem which came up over the weekend with my sp-300, only it was the other head that quit working. In talking with the Roland tech. this morning I found that the fuse for the print head is blown on the main board. Would be nice if they were easy to change, but there not.
I assume you meant to answer NO to the first one?? If not, then that's your problem. If you can see black ink in the damper then the tube is not plugged.

Everyday we are printing something with the machine now. Every electronic
piece of equipment we have has a ups/power surge on it but I still pull the main and unplug everything when lightning storms are in the forecast. I mainly put the ups/power surges on to maintain a clean, constant voltage...
I don't see that menu item (Pump Motor) on my machine. It's running
6.5 firmware and I see the latest version is 6.6 so possibly the firmware
was not updated the last time the tec was here and installed the new pump.
