  1. Year end purchase

I would place a big material order and see if I can get a better price on the larger material order. That's what Im doing actually, buying as much material as I can to raise expenses for the year
  2. Waste Ink

About 200 yards from my shop, there was a dry cleaning shop in the 80's where the owner poured waste dry cleaning chemicals down the septic system drain. The area around that shop is still a EPA superfund site and the dry cleaning owner might still be doing time. Right now all those chemicals...
  3. Looking for a fotoba digitrim or xy cutter

30k gets you a flatbed for 2+ years with the great financing/leasing options most offer. hopefully after that the machine is paying for itself
  4. Looking for a fotoba digitrim or xy cutter

I primarily do wallpaper panels, 10ft+ long panels. A full 60" x 100ft roll with 25+ panels takes 15 minutes to trim on the flatbed. The xy may be faster if your panels are all the same width etc but the flatbed has the advantage of cutting any panel width without manual adjustment (unless you...
  5. Looking for a fotoba digitrim or xy cutter

XY may be faster than a flatbed but how much cutting are you doing? I cut 5-6 rolls per day on the flatbed in under 2hrs
  6. Looking for a fotoba digitrim or xy cutter

I went with a Colex flatbed and 100% happy, glad I went with that over an XY, way more versatile
  7. Looking for a fotoba digitrim or xy cutter

Another brand to checkout is Miura II XY cutter, should be about 1/2 price of a new comparable fotoba. Fotoba has some advantages but it's close. I almost purchased a Miura but went with a flatbed instead
  8. Canon Colorado 1650 FEEDBACK

Well it's made in Europe but I have 10+ Colorado techs in my city in Texas (they also work on Canon copiers etc). Canon is a huge global company
  9. Canon Colorado 1650 FEEDBACK

I signed a service contract after the 1 year warranty ran out and while it is not cheap, one printed roll per month pays for the service contract and I have 0 worries about the printer breaking down.
  10. Canon Colorado 1650 FEEDBACK

The Colorado would likely save you enough on ink compared to the HP printers to pay for the printer and service contract. How much do you spend on HP ink per month, Colorado would cut that in half. Plus Colorado is made in the Netherlands so very close to Northern Europe, should have some good...
  11. Canon Colorado 1650 FEEDBACK

You literally change the air filters yourself on the Colorado :big laugh:
  12. Employee side business

In my situation I was also letting the employee take the decals home to weed so I'm sure there were lots that didn't come back to my shop. Learn from mistakes
  13. Employee side business

so why you need 2 jobs then if so talented?
  14. Employee side business

Don't allow it, you are paying for their training and creating a competitor
  15. Employee side business

I had very good employee of 2 years who was also friends with my mother, who mostly weeded/packaged orders bring her older son to work when we needed extra help and I taught him how to run the cutters part time while he has another full time job. A few months go by and both put in their 2 weeks...
  16. Computer type

Mine are 100% raster, based on watercolor scans. You can see the paper texture etc. Anything less that 150dpi I can see a difference in the print quality of the fine details. Im sure I could optimize the files to save size but why when the computer can handle it
  17. Computer type

120" H x 300"+ W at 150dpi is a common size I work with, the files themselves are usually under 3GB but when working on the files with dozens of layers, objects etc and resizing, the ram usage goes up significantly and then drops downs after the operation is performed. Biggest one I've worked on...
  18. HP Latex 800 upgrade to Canon Colorado 1650

I print similar materials, head crashed are very rare, most of the time the lamp hits before the head carriage. I had maybe 1-2 times when the material touches the actual heads, the other times the machine stops as soon as the carriage touches
  19. HP Latex 800 upgrade to Canon Colorado 1650

I'm happy printing wallpaper at 600sq ft per hr, perfect panel length and color consistency. All I see is panel length and color consistency complaints from latex users trying to print wallpaper. Ive had 0 downtime in a year/400k sq/ft of using the Colorado.
