In illustrator use "place" instead of "open". That should convert the fonts I think. Otherwise use CorelDraw and import using text to curves option. Also, as mentioned, Acrobat Pro. Frustrated? Tell them to make a the pdf the right way or get out of the business.

Just for giggles the attached image is Corel's Export/Import options. Corel is a lot simpler than killustrator. LET ME REITERATE, DO NOT MAKE EPS FILES IF DESIGN HAS GRADIENTS/FOUNTAIN FILLS. PDF ONLY! We should charge customers extra for providing such eps files.

Can't speak for Illustrator but I know in Corel you can export an eps as font or convert fonts. Always best to convert fonts. Corel will ask on import whether or not you want to import as text or curves. If you chloose text and the font is missing just cancel and re-import as curves. Not...

Yep, we use a Mimaki plotter with FineCut. No problems.

Also, a fill and a stroke counts as two separate entities. Plotter will cut both.

Do I understand you correctly? You want to cut pre-colored vinyls? Not just print and cut stuff on white?

Make sure when saving as tiff that "Alpha Channels" is unchecked. I've had tiffs sent from a third party come up garbled in our Print RIP. Opened the file up in photoshop, resaved without Alpha Channels and all was good.
