  1. Help identify retainer extrusion source

We're working on new faces for an old sign and it's missing a couple of retainers. I've looked thru a couple of suppliers extrusions, but haven't had any luck. Anyone recognize this? Someone added corner gussets. The face of the retainer measures 1-5/8" tall and the flange is 1-7/8".
  2. Advice on cutting with printer/cutter combos

We recently acquired a UCJV300 and it's first printer we've had with an onboard plotter. I'm having a heck of a time figuring out the trick to taping to the take-up reel when the job also has a cut. I've either ended up with the print coming loose from the take-up or the print has gotten crooked...
  3. UV prints and transfer tape

We just purchased our first UV printer, a Mimaki UCJV300. I printed on 3M 2080 Gloss Fire Blue film and cut some numbers. It needs transfer tape for applying the numbers. We used medium tack and the transfer tape will pull the UV print off the 2080 vinyl before it pulls the numbers off the...
  4. CO HP Latex 26500

We have this printer sitting around. It's either out of ink or needs a printhead. Thought I would check if anyone could use it. We're in Colorado north of Denver. Shoot me a PM and make an offer.
  5. Opinions on backlit signs with printers that print white

I really, really prefer to use cast translucent vinyl films for backlit signage. However it just gets to be such a battle anymore to convince people to choose a translucent color that doesn't exactly match the color some designer picked for their business cards but will look really good at night...
  6. Input on choosing a new printer

We're looking to purchase a new printer. This will be our 4th. We started with a Mimaki JV3 that lasted us about 14 years. While it was still running, we added an HP 26500. Once the Mimaki finally gave out, we bought an HP 560 and that's our primary machine now. The 26500 is pretty much useless...
  7. Channel Letter Wholesalers

Looking for recommendations on a good wholesale manufacturer for channel letters. Obviously quality is important but I also want a company that will treat their customer fairly when there's an issue. Not necessarily looking for the cheapest out there either.
  8. Another new permitting request

Another new first for me with permitting the past 22 years. This municipality is asking for "2012 building code compliance documents". I know what the 2012 building code is, but I've not heard of "compliance documents". Anyone heard of something like that before?
  9. New to me permitting issue - foot-candles

Gotta start with the street cred info first; I've been permitting signs for over 20 years now. Today I had a request I've never been asked to provide before: The sign in question is in a strip mall that requires individual lit letter signs, and this is the 3rd sign I've permitted for this...
  10. Cooley Brite

Has anyone else been having trouble with Cooley Brite? Signs we installed about 5 or 6 years ago have been turning really brown in the past couple of years. There are other signs we installed over 15 years ago and they aren't getting nearly as discolored even though they are much older. We have...
  11. Do you "fix" your sizes

This is a discussion we've had here a few times with some disagreement. Lets say you are making a lit letter sign that says HOUSING. You need to size the letters up to 18" tall but the length comes out to 82.719". Do you..... A) leave as nature intended at 82.719"? B) round it up to 83"? C)...
  12. Random Photo of the Day

Seen this on other forums, but I couldn't find a similar thread here. Basically just a place to post up a random photo that strikes you and can spark conversation. Could be a sign you made, a crazy sign you saw, or something else entirely. I don't think it needs to be completely limited to sign...
  13. Sign post base supplier

I'm looking for a sign post base like this one pictured: I can get one on myparkingsign.com but they aren't a wholesaler. Seems like I've had several projects lately that would use these bolt down sign bases so I'd like to find a wholesale source. Anyone have a good source for something like...
  14. Interesting business opportunity

I just got a phone call from the owner of a plaque and trophy type shop and he's looking to sell out. He called me because they are just a couple of blocks away and we've worked together on a couple of projects. I know very little about that type of work but it seems like it might be a good...
  15. Signs of the Times Big Survey issue

How many of you all saw the special issue of Signs of the Times with the big survey. I thought a lot of it was pretty enlightening. One thing that hit me was 73% of the survey respondents were over 50. There were a lot of other survey results that mirrored conversations here. Like the concern of...
  16. What are "Presses"?

Noticed a picture of this sign pop up at the top of the forum. What are "presses"?
  17. What is Signs365?

Today is the first time I've heard of Signs365. What is it? Went to the website and it's just in image of space with an option to login or apply.
  18. Clean & Lubricate Carriage Rails

We've run into the trouble with repeated alerts from our L26500 to clean and lubricate the carriage rails. I read some of the solutions posted previously in the forum, so I have a handle on rectifying the problem. But I'm thinking it seems like cleaning and lubing the rails should be done with...
  19. Lubricating oil for 26500

We've just about gone through our little bottle of oil that came with the machine. I'm curious what others have been doing for oil. I'm assuming you can get more from HP or an HP dealer. We also have a Mimaki printer and I'm curious if their y-axis oil would work for the HP as well.
  20. Opinions on repairing or replacing JV3

We have a JV3 that is ready for 2 head replacements. Also the last time we had it service, the tech thought we probably needed to have the drive belt replaced. We should do a capping station and pumps as well. We have a new HP that we are using for a majority of printing but we do have...
