How long do you let paint (latex semigloss) on a sign (MDO or marine grade plywood) dry before you're comfortable applying vinyl lettering over it. Two days? Four? A week?

I've got to put an order in for vinyl and tape so I'll get some mask material too and give that a whirl. I think it may be my best option for this job. And thank you geb - I appreciate the offer and the help.

Looking for software recommendations for a hand-painted sign shop that's going to begin using vinyl mostly for lettering. Our needs, as far as we can tell, are simple. What would be the best value and most user friendly software for us (we're going to buy a Graphtec or Summa plotter).

Thank you all so much. As a newbie, much appreciated. Two things I'd like clarified regarding sealing: Is it recommended to use wood fillers only on the voids in the edges or on the entire edges (before priming and painting the edges)? And is wood filler, not caulk, definitely the way to go? I...

If there's a void -- we have very few of them -- we fill it with caulk (we don't use edge caps, as most of our signs have curves we cut). We completely caulk the edges, then we paint them. So far, this has worked well. Let me know if there's something more we should be doing.

Started using MDO for signs this summer. Went through a unit of 60 1/2-inch thick 4x8 sheets without incident. Also ordered six 3/4-inch MDO boards, from the same lumber company, for a pair of customers who wanted thicker signs. The two MDO 3/4-inch boards used for one of those customers...
