  1. Everyone knows me as the ADA Sign Lady

I love ADA projects. Have a reputable company make them, mark them up and charge for the installation, fairly simple money. Here's a funny story. When ADA signs first became necessary I was doing a school and the architect specified Braille for all the projecting signs over the hall doors and...

  7. Question Will any paint/vinyl/UV Printing stick to the polyethylene core in ACM?

We ran into this issue on a project. I spoke with The Matthews tech people and the Alupanel people and both told me getting paint to stick to the polyethylene is highly unlikely. The path of least resistance is to use ACP with a gray core.
  8. Rant Customer Rant

Tell the client the project is really two seperate jobs. One is to produce useable artwork, the other is to produce the labels. Get paid for the first job and then proceed to the second. First payment will give you a hint of how long their payment cycle is.
  9. Stomp shear vs panel saw

A stomp shear works well, get an 8' or 10'. Peck, Stow & Wilcox makes a good one, they've been around for decades. You don't need a new stomp shear. Mine was made in 1958, still is working great, I bought it in about 1980.

  12. Question Help me pick a Mimaki rinter

Gary, I have a CJV 150-160 with the 8 color setup. the color gamut is great but the printer runs slow. My 10 year old Roland was faster. I'd keep that in mind if I were you. Good luck.
  13. Sign foam not taking paint.

I'll bet it's a primer issue. If the paint isn't latex, (I have no experience with that on signs) moisture in the air lines or damp atmosphere will cause the paint to blush which gives a blotchy finish.

  20. What? In order for me to do some work for you, you want to have the option to audit my business expenses of the job!

That's totally out of line. Speaking of crazy stuff, we are doing a small (24"x36") double sided sigh that will be hung on an existing arm bracket. My client's landlord is Yale University. Yale requires that I have a $5.000.000 umbrella policy in addition to the $2.000.000 that I have.
