Antoine,
We have this printer as well. here are some quick tips that come to mind.
1) name your spot colors for white as "White" and for varnish as "Varnish". If you have black ink in the varnish tank, then I would still call this layer "Varnish".
2) for the layers you have for spot...
Yes, decoder and decryption is same thing. And you don't have one. Decoder cards are cheap and readily available but they do Not have them for 2nd gen lock yet. 1st gen lock heads are hard to find now. So look for unlocked dx5. If you are using solvent based inks you can not use a water...
What is the brand of the printer?
The old printhead may have come from a 60in wide printer. It may not have a lock. But the serial number could still be similar.
Try triple checking you ribbon connection from the printhead to the decryption card. If you do not have a decryption card...
Look at the serial number for the old and new printhead. I'm betting your old one was 1st gen lock and the new one is 2nd gen lock. Your decryption card will not work perfectly if this is the case. A band like the one you show is exactly the result.
dx5 serial number code
So, the serial number on the circuit board tells you year and month produced. The two left digits are the year. 14 is 2014. The next digit is the month I guess. so 4 would be april. So, if the number is > 14 400 000 then it is 2nd time locked. The far right two...
DX5 1st time lock and 2nd time lock
Attached are three photos. One is named "dx5-f186000-orig-1st-lock-13390601.jpg" and this is the original F186000 printhead and I'm quite sure it is a 1st time lock as the decoder works fine. The other is named "dx5-f186000-bestbuy-r2000-14440301.jpg" a...
Second time locked
Thanks Jack for the reply. I haven't found anything on the web about this subject. How do you know about a "second time" lock? I have 3 other F186000 heads and they all look identical (circuitry etc.). The difference is probably what's hidden under the white glue globs...
locked R2000 printhead
I bet those color bands came up at 16-18 inches from the home position. That is a locked printhead. I have the same problem and my decoder is not working on this head. It is also from an R2000. I have gotten an R2000 printhead to work before, but this one is...
Thank you for the update. Could you please recap what you tried and the results? From what I understand, you installed a decoder between the printhead and the driver board and you still got the 001001B overheat error. If so, did this error occur right after powering up the printer?
Do...
DX5 decoder version
I also have the 7880 and currently have an older model R1900 DX5 printhead (IF33V). It has been working great. I have two different decoders and both seem to function the same (one is ver 1 and the other ver 2, the version two has the connectors all facing up)...
DX5 Decoder going bad
I too have been having this issue. I think my dx5 decoder board is starting to fail. This happened a while back where about 20-30 inches (in the feed direction) into a print, it would act up majorly with banding and/or ink channel not printing (problem was across the...
How the Epson 7880 Cartridge works
This is important so I will dwell into it some more. Attached is a photo of my Epson 7880 refillable cartridge. The exit port sits approximately 6 inches lower than the print head. So, ink has to travel up vertically a net of 6 inches. I think this...
It's not just white.
Artbot, I agree with this and I will probably do this modification when I change the ink lines.
Thank you for the replies, but please recall from my post that CMYK is just as problematic as the whites. Just as we speak, I have been trying to get black to prime...
I have a cheapo UV flatbed printer that is based on the Epson 7880 and the DX5 printhead. CMYK+WWWW. I have had good success but this always comes with hours of frustration. Many issues, and most of them stem from the UV white ink.
If you know the 7880, it has the 4 ink cartridges on the...
