Advice Needed: Brass Letters Inset into Marble Floor Circles

I’ve been approached for a project that involves insetting brass letters into two 54-inch-wide marble circles in a lobby. The marble is part of the existing floor, and the brass letters need to match the style of an existing inset lettering design (photos provided by the client).

Here’s what I’m trying to figure out:

1. Marble Removal vs. On-Site Work:

The marble circles are fixed into the floor. Is it better to remove them for CNC engraving, or should I bring a portable CNC machine to the site?

If anyone has experience with marble removal, how risky is it for a piece this size (54 inches wide) without causing damage?

2. Portable CNC Machine Recommendations:

Are there any portable CNC machines suitable for engraving large marble surfaces on-site?

If you’ve used one, how is the precision, and what should I consider during setup?

3. Brass Letter Installation:

What’s the best adhesive or securing method for inset brass letters in marble?

Are there sealing or finishing steps I should take to ensure long-term durability and match the existing look?

This is for a high-visibility project in a university building, so I’m looking for advice on achieving the best possible result. Any tips, tools, or lessons from similar projects would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help!
