If I didn't know better, I would think that's about the only explanation.

I'll preface this by saying it's not a reflection on the manufacturer...more on the numbskull who decided this was the best way to ship these.

These were shipped to me from an out of state sign company for a local install. Painted ½" acrylic. The studs were put in ahead of time, which was nice unless you're just going to PUT ALL OF THE PIECES IN A HEAP IN THE BOX.

The logo pieces were on the bottom, absolutely no protection. A piece of cardboard was placed on top of them and the letters were placed on top of that....all in a pile, no protection whatsoever.

I just keep shaking my head....it's baffling.

Holy crap I would have been so pissed. I hope you got new ones for free. Can you tell who the manufacturer is? Because if their quality control is allowing that out the door, I want to make sure I don't use them.

If they had manufactured the letters for me, yes, I would have been livid. But these are for a customer of theirs here locally, so there's really no reason for me to be upset about it. They're just going to have to remake them and resend them. The install wasn't scheduled for a couple more weeks anyway, so they have plenty of time to get a new set to me without affecting the customer.

And no, I'm not telling who the manufacturer is. As I mentioned, this isn't indicative of the quality of work they do. Who knows what the circumstances were....I picture a young kid in their shipping department with a bad attitude and he just threw them in there to be vindictive. Maybe it was his last day there. Who knows.

I can't believe someone would put them in there like that thinking they would be ok. To me it looks purposeful.

Unless they're employing a toddler, I don't see any reasonable excuse for that. Any adult that would do something like that doesn't need to be doing anything other than pushing a broom.

Besides the obvious defects from shipping. It looks to me like there is still a bunch of visible milling marks on the edges of the acrylic and looks like a smaller less experienced company probably handled the production.

any possibility the shipping company screwed up the original box and tried to re-pack it?
i have see that happen before.
maybe a combo of bad shipping from the manufacturer and the shipping company.
either way that sucks

Don't bother. You know dang well that if you toss them in a box with the studs on them and ship them EXPECTING them to arrive damaged they will show up without a scratch on them.

Yep, just like you can throw old neon units or fluorescent lamps in the back of your truck with no damage, but destroy new ones by breathing the wrong direction.

I wouldn't necessarily say a smaller/less experienced company did that. It boils down to dollars and cents. To get super smooth letters you need to spend extra time to get them smooth. This means either spending extra time on the CNC or extra time in paint prep sanding and smoothing. I would consider the edge quality industry standard more or less. You'd think it would be a touch smoother given they were painted and the paint shop had to do some sanding anyway.

If I'm picking out an issue, I think they were routed with the wrong size bit and too fast. Again, boils down to dollars and cents but they used larger than a 1/4" bit on something that called for a 1/4" bit. Likely did it that way so they could comfortably do the job in one pass vs 2.

The studs are clean/painted, letters are new. Someone was just careless.

Yeah, might be related to the customers budget, I really don't know. Maybe they wanted quick and dirty.

No, it was the original box, labels, etc. Just carelessness.
