That new logo ain't gonna fit none too good unless you really reduce it in size. Then, they'll be ticked it's so small. If the old truck has it and doesn't have to be changed, I'd talk the guy into letting this one go or all of your copy is gonna be wa-a-a-ay off in proportions. See, had you painted this like you always say you're doing, you would've painted yourself in a corner. Now, you'll have to remove EVERYTHING, unless the guys doesn't give a rat's behind for common sense. Make sure you splain to him it's his fault and he'll have to pay for removal and re-lettering.

When i letter a van like this i always "eyeball" the graphic to make it look level.
I would have secured one part of the graphic and when positioning the next one .. I would use either a wooden yard stick or a lengthy piece of scrap coroplast to follow the same line.

maybe it was a good thing you used the wrong logo.....now you have a chance to fix the lettering and make it look right

You need to measure off the belt line not the top panel of the van.
You have things running uphill and downhill they need to have a common base line...

N0PE...BEEN THERE DUN THAT))) and had to redo it.........fact is.......with the beltline running up hill to the rear, the roof line running downhill to the rear....EYEBALLIN it....works better..........

Looking at just the box part of a van (behind the door, to the taillight) the roof line runs down hill, and that is very evident to the eye. The beltline although, strikes just about everyone as a LEVEL line. Whether it is, or it isn't......when you don't line us the graphics with that body line, it smacks you right in the face that its crooked (not level....F'd up...whatever).

Sorry you have to redo this van.....that would suck. As for the eyeball method.....I haven't seen anyone else agree with you Joe (stubborn mule). If this isn't the first one you've done....then its not the first one you've done wrong.

Not trying to be mean, or to hurt your (hmmm how did you put it) ettie-bittie feelings.

I DID THEM 1ST .....lined up with the belt line.........THE OWNER SAID IT WAS CROOKED..., i re did them by EYEBALLIN EM.......hes been happy for 12 years......got a couple more for this same company...EYEBALLED EM....hes happy....i like happy clients....they write the CHECK))))))

My "van" thread was about how to deal with the rubber moulding. You replied back with....

1st off.........WHY does the graphic have to be that size???
2ndly..........IT IS NOT that important!!!!!!
3rdly........IF YOU did a better DESIGN OF THE TEXT ...........you wouldnt need to compensate with an overgrown, over used...piece of clip art.
NOW THAT SAID.

work with WHAT IS IMPORTANT sign basics 101
WHO, WHERE, WHAT, AND HOW TO CONTACT!!!!!!!!!! this is why he wants the truck lettered.....not so you can take up half of the truck with an "over used" cartoon guy.
redo the text, make it IMPORTANT....down size the guy...........you may find something you didnt know would work.
OH...and for $3-500........why waste YOUR TIME giving him something HE DONT THINK ENOUGH OF....... to pay for good design???

Ohhhhh yeah, that helped answer my question on the moulding. (give me a 2x4....smack))))))

So....just because you didn't post for APPROVAL, doesn't mean your not going to get it. ))))))))))) (or in your case NOT get it)

you know as well I as I do that if a newbie had posted this with some of the lettering running up hill and some downhill, you would have been all over them. if you use the eyeball method at least be consistant.

Just to get my 2¢ worth in on this... Wanted to say regardless of all the constructive criticism, it certainly gives the old van some new life. The average person on the street looking at the van won't even think twice about the little things being pointed out on here! It's only those of us in the industry that have a sharp enough eye to even care about this stuff. Great job from an old guy on an old van OP!!

Eyeball is the only way to go with these vans ... There are no lines to follow that will make it look straight. As soon as you follow one line you will notice other lines make it look off balance.

Eyeballs are fine as long as the eyes aren't out of alignment.
I was taught in sign school that mechanical measuring is not always the best tool for
lettering design.
