So im painting etc at my new storefront today and I see a lady across the street taking pics with her phone.

I go out and see whats up.. She starts asking questions, so I cross the street to her car and talk to her. I noticed she is wearing her company shirt.. Yeah I chuckled a bit

We get shopped once in a while by the competition. When we moved in there were 2 competitors right across the street next to each other. One guy lowered his prices right away and then went out of business a year later. Go figure.

He had an interesting business model. Charge a low price, collect up front, never deliver the product.

He also didn't pay his electric bill so he used a generator to turn the lights on. Upon moving out of the leased space his workers trashed the place. We were watching them (at night so it was very visible) just take everything in the shop (equipment was removed) and just throw it all over. By the time they were do there was about 2 feet of trash all over the entire floor space. Interesting behavior for someone who didn't pay his rent for the last year he was there.

You can tell a whole lot about your competition just by looking at their at there sign, I think the photo below is who you are talking about, check out the peeling graphics on the green building.

This guy was first glass, NOT!

unfortunately these are the ones that get the business. Missed opportunity because the customer pays more attention to money than detail

back in the middle 90's I was at a shop that did after market stuff and was waiting for them to finish up installing a spolier on my car. a guy comes in and they have a meeting in the waiting room to talk over their plans to get into the sign biz, who they thought they could undercut (yep it was us) and how they were going to go about doing that. so I did a little spy work without even trying as you never know who is in your shop

I had someone call for prices last year (for a painted wall) Of course they never called back after getting the price.
Drove past there on unrelated business last week, their wall is painted and now they are selling large-format printed banners and signs.
The sign pictured went up last year on Main Street, but was quickly replaced with a banner. I'm thinking they didn't check with zoning or something.
Would you buy a sign like this?
As far as I'm concerned, the hacks can all run themselves right into the ground...pretty soon FREE won't be cheap enough.
When I was in my online dating phase I met someone who was a sign person. He was too young for me but we struck up a conversation, and hung out a few times. I even referred some people to him who were looking for sign types I do not produce.
Found out he kept the deposit from a lawyer I told to call him and never made anything for them!
After that, I only refer to the three local shops whom I actually know.
    Love....Jill

I feel kind of lonely. Not one of my competitors ever come by to visit me. I must have cooties or smell bad.
