calculate remainder of roll

Is there a way to calculate the remainder of a roll. I have a partial 13oz vinyl banner and want to send to print how many banners that I can fit on there. Is there a way to calculate that?

It is not just figuring out how much is left on the roll, but how much was on it when you first used it.

I have had loads of print rolls that had a lot less on them than they should have.
I have been short by over 7.5 Metres on a 50 Metre Roll!!!!

I write on the media how much is left before I take it out of the printer.
When that doesn't happen, and I need to figure out how much is left I use a digital caliper and math.
Here is a link to my math/formula

I like to live on the wild side. I don't usually print over 4' or 8' at a time so I unroll it on my counter and make sure I have enough. Last week I looked behind me at the printer and saw cardboard! I quick used a razor to cut it off the roll and it worked out perfectly!

Not super accurate - but works pretty well and easy to do - if you have a 3" core, then roughly every layer you can count should be approx. 1 foot ( based on PI )

This is kind of interesting.... I just now needed to figure out if I have enough on a scrap roll of poster paper to print a template.
I pulled out my calipers and used my method... I came up with 9 feet.
For fun, I thought I would try Fire Sprints calculator, and it came out to about 18 feet - twice as much.
Then I tried Stacey's method and rolled it out on the table to measure it - it's about 11 feet.

It would appear that your method is the safe method. Using my method is OK for small rolls like this but larger rolls, your method would be more accurate and safe than Fire Sprints, and faster than mine.

Great investigative work!

I should note that generally, I'll subtract 3ft from what I get just for extra cushion - I didn't in this experiment though.
