Here is a link to my math/formulaI write on the media how much is left before I take it out of the printer.
When that doesn't happen, and I need to figure out how much is left I use a digital caliper and math.
you showed me this long ago. I keep meaning to buy a digital caliper. Here is a link to my math/formula

Inventory Control
So it's coming to the time where we need to start taking an inventory count. we do not have a real system for counting everything other than a spreadsheet saying half roll , 1/4 roll, (3)full rolls type thing. is there a more sophisticated/ accurate way of keep track or maybe a live view option...www.signs101.com
MOST SATISFYING ISN'T IT!I like to live on the wild side. I don't usually print over 4' or 8' at a time so I unroll it on my counter and make sure I have enough. Last week I looked behind me at the printer and saw cardboard! I quick used a razor to cut it off the roll and it worked out perfectly!
I love it when I use up a roll down to like 6 inches or less. It's VERY satisfying!MOST SATISFYING ISN'T IT!![]()
It would appear that your method is the safe method. Using my method is OK for small rolls like this but larger rolls, your method would be more accurate and safe than Fire Sprints, and faster than mine. This is kind of interesting.... I just now needed to figure out if I have enough on a scrap roll of poster paper to print a template.
I pulled out my calipers and used my method... I came up with 9 feet.
For fun, I thought I would try Fire Sprints calculator, and it came out to about 18 feet - twice as much.
Then I tried Stacey's method and rolled it out on the table to measure it - it's about 11 feet.
I should note that generally, I'll subtract 3ft from what I get just for extra cushion - I didn't in this experiment though. It would appear that your method is the safe method. Great investigative work!
The problem with using a caliper measurement like the way we present in our calculator, is that all the inputs need to be very accurate. This is kind of interesting.... I just now needed to figure out if I have enough on a scrap roll of poster paper to print a template.
