Need Help Carriages are seperated error while printing on VS-540

I've been getting a carriages are separated error for the past few weeks and they aren't actually separated. I've done a lot of trouble shooting and nothing has fixed this issue. I've replaced the data cable that connects to the carriage and that worked for awhile but hasn't solved the issue. The print also shifts while printing before it gives me the error. (see attached photo) I don't get the error every time it prints but it's getting worse and worse. Suggestions on what might be the cause? Don't want to just start replacing things that don't need replaced.

Thanks,
Corey

DIY Printer Fixing Guide
That's an encoder strip issue. I would clean the strip with alcohol and air dust the sensor. If that doesn't fix the issue, you probably need a new strip and/or sensor.
