I assume this is a Roland ?
A few years ago, I had the same problem. The tech gave me the procedure to set the carriage back in place, but warned that it may be caused by the "cut carriage cable" That's what it turned out to be.
Do you have other error messages such as "pinch roller error"
If so, consider the cable

I had that problem on my CJ-500 after messing with the carriage board.. I thought I had caused a major issue when working on it, however all that needed to be done was Limit Initialization and all was well:

That doc is for VP & RS Machines, but the exact same procedure (including the <^> Key combo) was what I used on my CJ500
