Cutting strip price (!!!)

I own a Mimaki CG-61 24" plotter for over a decade and never had a single issue with it. To top that, being the only one who operate it (no staff), the perfect weight adjustment for every medias saves the blade so much I only replace it every 2-3 years (seriously! ...but I don't mass produce you figure it)

So, I'm really satisfied with it but now I feel it's time to replace the cutting strip 'cause there's some spots that are more difficult at weeding process. There comes a time where some parts are simply worn out so I call a local supplier who sells Mimaki printers & plotters to inquire if this part is still available and also how much they want for it...

:omg2: They ask $49.00 for 24" long of self-adhesive rubber strip! WTF?

I haven't asked for a kidney for God Sake... So I push my luck a li'l further and asked for pinch rollers: $110 for 4 (but my plotter only has 2) They say it's how they are coming.

Is there another member over here who use the same device (or the same CG serie from that era) who replaced these parts for less?

I haven't found any 3rd-party parts on eBay and other similar sources. I would prefer OEM since they last forever but if a no-name one fits and meets my expectations, I'd jump on it.

10 years out of it and you are worrying about $160 in parts that will make it work like new again? Did you read Merrits AGFA parts thread?

Aside from that I recently replaced the rollers on our Summa cutter and they are pricey on those as well...

I see your point and honestly, I knew I would get that kinda reply but let me explain my point.

I do striping on cars. Customers know I buy a $15 roll and do about 5 cars with a roll. I do charge $40 for a 10 minutes job with around $3 of material but they agree because I use professional grade vinyl and do meticulous installation. If I'd asked $85, they would be asking: "WTF buddy?" so that's my point with the $49 they asked.

I think it's simply outrageously over-priced for 3/8" x 24" of rubber, seriously...

The fact I never spent a dime (except for blades) just means I take really great care of my equipments and it pays on the long runs.

I don't want to know how much a servo-motor worth...:noway:

How cheap can one be?

I can tell you what you can use in place of that $49.00 strip for less then 2 dollars but I won't, becuase I bet 2 dollars is to much for you!

I asked myself: "why the hell do people use 3rd party ink instead of the reliable OEM?" If the answer is to save some bucks, I think my request was valuable too but obviously, you folks do a way better living than I do so please accept my apologies for this stupid question / comment about the price of this strip. I'm gonna spend that $49 and shut my mouth next time. I thought forums were made to discuss about techniques, materials, troubleshooting. I already brought tips on great savings when I found some quality stuff that performed as good as OEM ones and I was happy to help a fellow member...

By your own figures, you need to work less than 20 minutes to afford a cutting strip that will last you 10 years.

Stripe cars for an hour, take the overhead and invest in cutting strips for the next 40 years, you would still have over $20 left.

You can order 1/16 HDPE wear strip material 24x 36 piece for about 15 bux.

You get yoru sheet and cut off a piece for the width you need. It will be a lifetime supply.
