Not sure about the dust, although I'm sure it would have some sort of effect since static will attract small scraps of paper etc.
We added it because we were getting a crazy amount of static on long lamination runs. You could heat the machine crackling and popping from 30 feet away.
It's pretty much all gone now. Occasionally there will be a small pop, but nowhere near like it used to be.
