just got back from the ISS show in Ft Worth, and wow what an overload in concepts.
the biggest point that we are looking into are full color garments without using heat transfer materials, which boils down to DTG and Dye-Sub for small runs
Personally the DTG seems to be lacking especially since having to use it everyday and the amount of time that is required for printing onto Dark garments (pre-treatment, laying a white base and then applying the graphics)
Dye-Sub really caught my attention with applying full color graphics to shirts. With no out gassing or pre treatment needed from the printer to the application
Printers seemed to come in 2 categories
1. sheet printers, up to 13 x 19 areas and are small and no rip programs to train on, just design and print. Ricoh seemed to be the leader here
2. roll printers much larger and able to nest the jobs and color the ink usage through the rip. Mutoh and Epson for this class.
What are the pros/cons between the 2 makers
with printers the Espon F6070 seemed to be the newest on the market and offered very detailed printing even without doing the full 8 passes.
However the fact that is is a top load and the material has to go down then back up (making a "U") that seems like it would bend/crease the material and effect the print quality.
with Dye Sub how do you get around the fact that you can not do white onto darker garments?
doing a full color change on the shirt is the first option, are there others? can this be done without having a full size heat press?
what types transfer papers are suggested to have the best image transfer quality?
Can you mix inks? one both there said to mix ink to get the neon colors / more vivid appearance
Which garments are being used? there seemed to be lots of new producers for Poly shirts and the advances with the feels and durability anyone have a chance to test these new shirts?
what are others seeing as far improvements with technologies?
Or does DTG still offer the best options for full color small runs?
